job summary

responsible for the coordination of payer audit requests, audit progress, case determinations, appeals and audit resolution within cobius audit database. must have a working knowledge of rules and regulations as they pertain to centers for medicare and medicaid services (cms)' government and non-government regulatory and enforcement agency audits for documentation and billing compliance.

keeps audit activity current, moving and prevents the organization from having unnecessary financial burden from the audit process.

applies professional knowledge of coding regulations and standards and cites references in preparing appeal arguments. responsible for watching timelines of requests and assures these are handled timely and efficiently enough to respond to the external reviewer. works with leadership for continual process enhancement and feedback. this includes feedback and education processes to coding management, patient financial services, clinical departments and/or provider leadership.

working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to understand international classification of diseases, treatment or management of medical or surgical conditions required. current knowledge in coding schemes and prospective payment systems and clinical practices and technology. demonstrates strong computer skills and attention to detail with ability to prioritize to meet deadlines and knowledge of information systems.

qualifications

bachelor's degree in business, risk management or healthcare related field preferred.

minimum of three years of coding and/or audit experience.

registered health information administrator (rhia), registered health information technician (rhit), certified professional coder (cpc), certified coding associate (cca) or certified coding specialist (ccs) is required.
