jacobs will provide overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing and launch operations at nasa's kennedy space center in florida. these tasks will support the international space station, exploration ground systems, space launch system, orion multi-purpose crew vehicle and launch services programs.


 responsibilities: 


 essential functions:

independently perform as a technician in the layout, fabrication, modification, assembly, repair, machining, milling, turning, shaping, grinding, cutting, installation, construction, etc., of precision machined parts, components and assemblies.  work from electronic, written and or verbal information, blueprints, sketches, specifications and applicable codes and standards. independently perform as a certified technician to program, set up, adjust and operate all shop floor cnc and manual machines such as lathes, grinders, shapers, milling machines, presses, etc. independently perform as a certified technician to rework, repair, or modify existing fabrications for fit and dimensional accuracy. perform effectively in a fast-paced job shop environment where the majority of the fabrications are unique time sensitive. production runs are minimal.   train, mentor and provide guidance to less experienced machinists. maintain certifications, licenses, permits, etc., required for performance of assignment. maintain logs, records, charts, etc., as required. perform work in other classifications where qualified and when incidental, but necessary to accomplish work assignment.


qualifications:

 
knowledge, skills and abilities:

hs diploma or equivalent and five (5) years related experience in machinist operations requires a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience with cad/cam. requires a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience with cnc (mill & lathe), as well as a fundamental understanding of maintenance requirements and troubleshooting. requires demonstrated experience working with g-code. the ideal candidate will have the ability to hand edit g-code on the shop floor, having a fundamental understanding of the code's intended function. requires demonstrated experience with the interpretation of complex drawings, including fundamentals and symbols associated with gd&t. requires the ability to independently exact setups and perform fabrication per print.  requires the ability to independently determine speed and feed rates for common cutting tools and materials. requires rounded training and experience acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. knowledge of hand tools, power tools, lifts, pendant cranes, and precision measuring and testing equipment is required. must convey demonstrated proficiency in solving complex fabrication challenges and experience in resolving equipment issues. must be able to accurately and effectively communicate ideas via writing and verbal communication. ability to interact effectively with co-workers, staff and supervision/management. ability to hold the necessary security clearances.  perform basic computer skills to include the use of microsoft office products (outlook, word, excel, and powerpoint) and computerized maintenance management systems such as maximo & solumina for work order execution. ability to hold necessary medical physical requirements  must possess state motor vehicle license.

 
physical requirements:

duties may include the handling of hazardous waste and transportation of hazardous waste (if qualified). ability to lift 50 pounds ability to distinguish between colors (ex: blue and green wires) ability to comply with safety policies and compliances ability to use limbs with 90% range of motion must use safety personal protective equipment where required must be able to climb ladders, towers and stairs will require physical exertion in climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, carrying, or critical work in cramped quarters.

 
work environment: 

all work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with nasa, osha, and company safety standards.  work will be mainly performed in an inside environment, but fieldwork can be a combination of inside and outside depending on the project. working at heights is required. working in confined spaces may be required. work among equipment and stations in support of launches or stand-by. position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site. walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

 
equipment and machines:

cnc and manual lathes, milling machines, water jet machine, grinders, shapers, presses, etc. cutting, fabricating, forming pipe machines, such as shears, punch and drill presses, grinders, buffers, files and all other tools required. operate vehicles and other types of equipment required for completion of assigned tasks. use personal computers and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance. personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.


attendance: 

work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week must be dependable and punctual. significant overtime, sometimes with short notice, may be required to meet demanding schedule
