Carpenter / handyman / caretaker full time / part time - united kingdom, crewe, cheshire

tib services are recruiting people with diy skills all across the uk to provide local schools with relief/temporary caretaker and site support. be a valued member of the team undertaking rewarding temporary work within friendly school environments, typically 1 week – 6 months duration. we need people who are proactive, helpful and who want to make a difference.

you must pass the eligibility requirements to be considered for this position:

5-year checkable uk work history
two uk employment references
right to work in the uk
no previous criminal convictions

you should be a practical person who is confident with home diy tasks, but you do not require any related qualifications or prior experience working in a school environment. we need team players looking for a fresh challenge and keen to learn new skills as an agency school caretaker.

we look for people with experience helping others in the community with relevant transferrable skills. many of our team are from the following professional backgrounds: emergency services, military, public sector, security, education, health & safety, caretakers, handyman / handywoman, maintenance, building & trades and the charity/voluntary sector.

key duties:

varies with each assignment, typical tasks include: security (open/lock up), deliveries and porterage, perimeter security checks, setting up meeting rooms, checking fire escapes, supervising cleaning staff, regulatory checks (training provided), liaising with contractors, minor repairs and maintenance.

training provided:

online h&s portal – safeguarding children, fire warden, asbestos awareness, chemicals (coshh), legionella awareness, working at height, safe use of ladders and manual handling.
on site induction prior to each assignment.

reporting to: school business manager and/or head teacher

national living wage: £9.90/hr (approx. £11.09/hr including accrued holiday entitlement)

greater london living wage: £11.05/hr (approx. £12.38/hr including accrued holiday entitlement)

mileage: tib pay mileage working out of your immediate area (over 10 miles) at 30p/mile. (in greater london tib pay mileage on all travel at 45p/mile.)

temporary worker (zero hours) paye contract guaranteeing you reliable payment, annual leave entitlement and paid lunch breaks (full days) whilst giving you flexibility to choose your assignments.

alternative self-employed contract is available for existing handyman / handywoman and tradespeople, offering higher rates of pay in line with local trade rates.
