about the external relations directorate and the public affairs team

the external relations directorate leads the ofs's work on external and internal communications, public affairs and student information and engagement.

the directorate is responsible for media relations and planning, strategic and digital communications, multimedia support, student information and engagement, stakeholder engagement and parliamentary support, publications, events and public information.

the public affairs team oversees ofs's interactions with our stakeholders. this includes managing ofs's relationships with stakeholders (including with parliamentarians and government), organising events and handling or directing enquiries from higher education providers and members of the public.

about the events co-ordinator role

based in our public affairs team but working across the ofs, your role will be to plan and manage our varied programme of external events. some of our events are delivered in-person, some online only, and some are hybrid with attendees joining online and in-person. we run a broad range of events, including webinars, thematic conferences, parliamentary receptions and events linked to our annual report and insight briefs.

key responsibilities in this role include:

producing detailed proposals and options for events

agreeing and managing event budgets and project plans

project managing, or assisting with the project management of, a variety of different events

collaborating with internal stakeholders to advise colleagues across the ofs on event objectives, audiences, agendas, and event promotion

for in-person events, locating suitable venues and co-ordinating in-person events on the day

for online and hybrid events, co-ordinating and producing live broadcasts, and ensuring event recordings and other event materials are available to view on demand

managing supplier and contractor relationships

working closely with the head of public affairs and the director of external relations to establish and develop the ofs's processes for managing events.

about you

we're looking for someone with the skills to deliver high-quality, impactful events. you'll need to be highly organised, have great attention to detail and be able to solve problems. you'll need to be able to build and maintain relationships with staff across ofs, running project teams to deliver events effectively. you'll also need to work closely with suppliers and external contacts (such as invited speakers). you will be able to negotiate, providing advice to colleagues but also constructive challenge where necessary.

you'll get to work on a wide variety of events, across a range of policy areas that are crucial to the delivery of the ofs's aim to help every student have a fulfilling experience of higher education.

working arrangements

the ofs is trialling a hybrid model of working, a mixture of office and remote working., staff can work up to 60% of their hours remotely, and 40% in the office, as well as some flexibility in core contact hours. we will provide the equipment and support to ensure that you can do that safely and securely. our offices remain open for staff and teams.
