role purpose

natural resources wales is currently putting in place an exciting new programme of marine work with support from welsh government's nature networks programme. the aim of the programme is to deliver projects that build resilient ecological networks across wales, focussing on improving the condition of protected sites. nrw will deliver a suite of projects focussed on welsh coasts and seas ranging from developing marine biosecurity plans to restoring salt marsh habitats. in addition, we will be undertaking feasibility and evidence work that will help us to put in place better management for our coasts and seas in the future.

in this role, you will sit within the marine and coastal planning and policy team and work closely with a range of technical specialists in nrw.

you will support the delivery of projects focussing on improving the condition and management of the welsh marine protected area network. in particular, you will focus on work to improve our understanding of loss of marine and coastal habitats as a result of coastal squeeze. you will also be a key contact for external stakeholders wishing to pursue projects that improve the condition of mpas in wales, both through nrw grant programmes and wider funding opportunities.

qualifications and skills

1. knowledge of: welsh, uk and eu legislation related to the marine environment, in particular designated sites; welsh, uk government policy drivers in biodiversity; and the issues and opportunities in wales. 2. good communication and inter personal skills 3. experience of: technical analysis and interpretation of a range of environmental information and data. 4. working with/in statutory nature conservation bodies, local authorities, engos, and public bodies. 5. working in a programme and project management environment with project management experience and/or qualifications. 6. working towards professional membership or aspiration to become a professional member of a relevant institution. 7. share your knowledge and expertise to help solve problems, supporting all heads of business in epp as required.
