role purpose

natural resources wales is currently putting in place an exciting new programme of marine work with support from welsh government's nature networks programme. the aim of the programme is to deliver projects that build resilient ecological networks across wales, focussing on improving the condition of protected sites. nrw will deliver a suite of projects focussed on welsh coasts and seas ranging from developing marine biosecurity plans to restoring salt marsh habitats. in addition, we will be undertaking feasibility and evidence work that will help us to put in place better management for our coasts and seas in the future.

in this role, you will sit within the marine projects team and work closely with a range of technical specialists in nrw, particularly within the marine monitoring and environmental assessment team.

you will support the delivery of projects investigating the reasons for decline of a range of habitats and species in the mpa network. this may including maerl and herring around milford haven in pembrokeshire, sponges in the menai strait, modiolus modiolus in the pen llyn a'r sarnau (plas) sac; and sandbank infaunal diversity across the mpa network.

your work will enable the development of appropriate management that can improve the condition of the welsh marine protected area network.

qualifications and skills

1. boat handling/skippering qualifications and experience and trailer towing qualification - essential for roles requiring boat work. 2. diving qualifications and experience - essential for roles required to undertake sub-tidal diving work. 3. good knowledge of marine monitoring methodology and deliver, including planning and scheduling. 4. data handling and it including gis. 5. marine taxonomy skills. 6. analysis and reporting skills as required. 7. ability to work in a physically demanding environment where diving and boat handling is required.
