job advertabout the opportunity:trading & shipping (t&s) maintains a large us portfolio of biogas offtakes and continues to expand its presence in europe, distributing the physical biogas/biomethane and marketing the associated environmental credits. biogas offers a strong route for decarbonization and is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources in the world. this role offers a chance to join a growing team with a mandate to expand bp's biogas activities across the uk and europe as part of a global business.

the biogas portfolio manager will be an integral part of the biogas origination team in the low carbon trading (lct) organisation. to support optimal delivery of our strategic goals, this position will provide portfolio optimization expertise. the optimization and management on a day-to-day basis of a pan-european portfolio requires a high level of knowledge and understanding of contractual obligations, positions and the costs and risks associated with transporting gas, biomethane and bio-lng across the various transmission system operators and trading points throughout europe. the successful candidate will have a varied role, pulling together their wealth of experience to collaborate across t&s and the broader bp. this role is an excellent fit for those with a commercial mentality and a passion for portfolio optimization and stakeholder influence/collaboration. the successful candidate will join one of t&s's foremost teams and play a vital part delivering bp's low carbon targets.

about the role:balance lct biogas supply and demand portfolio across europe to minimise imbalance charges in accordance with the current trading strategy and terms of the various transportation codesoptimise the portfolio and associated commercial agreements across europe to maximise profit, minimise tariffs and penalties and meet our operational deadlinesmaintain and develop internal and external relationships to improve market information flow within the portfolio, ensuring complete coverage of all potential supply and demand opportunities and executing a long-term growth strategywork closely with originators to provide direction and support in developing new and innovative structural opportunitiesprovide internal market commentary and analysis on the selection decisions, providing a common understanding across the team to maintain an accurate and assured exposure processdeliver on the agreed financial and non-financial performance targets, developing and crafting value around the portfolio and utilising market knowledge to improve trading opportunities while staying within defined risk limitswork in a consistent manner following standard procedures. identify and highlight areas where procedures are incomplete or where there is room for process improvement or to reduce operational riskhelp to maintain, improve and build models and tools related to portfolio optimizationabout you:essential skills:demonstrated experience working within a commodities trading environment, 5+ years experience is advantageous experience of working on portfolio optimizationknowledge and experience in gas, biogas and/or environmental credits marketsknowledge of data flows associated with offtake from / supply to meters and hubs in the uk or europerecord of handling risk and generating profit and savings in a team environmentstrong data modelling or process automation experienceexperience in running flexibility and multi-market instrumentsstrong commercial awareness and transactional understandingattention to detail, diligence and strong demonstration of bp's values and behavioursstrong interpersonal skills including listening, oral communication, network-building, problem solving and ability to work and influence people at all levels of the organizationability to work independently with minimal direction to deliver high quality workdesirable: european languages
