College graduates- physical education & mathematics (or other core subject) teacher

academic leadership charter school, a national blue ribbon winning school in the south bronx seeks college graduates to serve as physical education and mathematics (or other core subject area) teachers. we are seeking individuals who understand and promote the school’s mission and vision. we are looking for committed individuals dedicated to growing as teachers in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, classroom management, student success/well- being and school community.

responsibilities
• conduct physical education and health classes consistent with new york state standards
• develops skills and abilities within various sports (basketball, tennis, soccer, etc.)
• develop relationships and consistently communicate with students’ families
• develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills while providing a safe learning environment.
• collaboratively plan with teachers to address areas of need
• execute character education lessons centered around anti-bullying, good citizenship, good sportsmanship, etc.
• ensure the safety of students under your supervision
• supervision of students including morning breakfast duty, lunch duty, substitute teaching, supervision of extracurricular activities and dismissal
• provide tutoring to small student groups as needed
qualifications
• bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred)
• middle school experience preferred but not required
• desire to work in a teacher – driven, student - centered environment
• ability to work well with colleagues
• ability to communicate effectively and often with parents and families
• belief that all students can learn and achieve at high levels
• ability to teach a core subject (mathematics, english, social studies, science)
compensation: competitive and commensurate with experience
