the main purpose of the role:

the quality manager will lead the quality assurance effort and maintain progression to a "top brand" world class manufacturing site that is able to meet demanding customer requirements.

the role will be to direct and coordinate the quality improvement program, by giving adequate support to the manufacturing process and obtain process data in order to drive improvements, improve profitability and reduce internal and external non-conformance.

the quality manager is one of high visibility within the group, and with oem customers, therefore there will be the requirement, on occasion, to travel a variety of global locations to build strong face to face relationships. this role is responsible for overseeing all quality and supplier quality management systems and procedures. these are to be maintained and continuously developed/reviewed in line with the business and customer needs. the successful candidate will be required to manage quality engineers, supplier quality engineers, quality technicians, metrology engineers and customer acceptance line (cal) operators.

the main purpose of the role:

• responsible for managing the quality dept to achieve the required performance results aligned with the company s strategy "top brand" and customer specific requirements.

• lead the team through effective communication, coaching & recognition. undertake appraisals, performance management and identify training needs.

• communicate and share the company s quality philosophy to key personnel in the company.

• ensure that the company s business management systems (iso9001/14001/18001), procedures, standards & documents are supported where required and maintained to meet customer requirements that align with international standards, legislation & regulatory requirements.

• to prepare and present at the monthly strategy meeting a3 s detailing quality control, development & performance against kpi s for to maintain progression and alignment to the mother strategy.

• to prepare the monthly quality report for our parent company (head office) in japan.

• investigate and record customer complaints regarding product performance, specifications, and reliability.

• key in front end new product introduction (npi) & design, ensuring an apqp approach to building quality into new product & processes using tools such as: qfd, dfmea, pfmea, spc, ppap sign off including: psw, control plans, msa etc.

• to lead, coach & oversee all root cause investigations on key quality issues following the kpm uk structured 8d approach, utilising 6 sigma & spc tools.

• key in reviewing & signing off all product & process changes such as, alternative raw materials, tooling requirements, process changes, test plans, and product qualification requirements.

• to lead & chair the weekly customer quality review meeting to ensure progress & maintain improvement momentum with a focussed cross functional approach.

• to manage departmental budgets in line with planned levels and business variations.

• implement quality training programs for key quality & manufacturing personnel and supply chain partners.

• ensure the appropriate calibration of all quality equipment on the shop and in the central inspection dept.

• continually looking to enhance our measurement systems via new techniques & technology including the integration into the process.

• work with/support, if required, purchasing & logistics to integrate quality standards as part of the service level agreements for customers and core suppliers.

• perform any other duties/tasks within the skills & capability of the incumbent, as instructed by the manufacturing manager.

education & experience:

• excellent management leadership experience & skill, demonstrated experience in coaching and developing individuals (ability to motivate & influence others).

• strong working knowledge/experience of iso9001/14001/18001 compliance.

• black belt in six sigma with working knowledge of statistical software (minitab, spc excel etc).is desirable.

• demonstrative and substantial experience in quality assurance management.

• relevant engineering degree qualification

• strong technical background, with working knowledge & experience of apqp, six sigma, ideally within precision machining & finishing, castings and assembly.
