job description:

we are currently recruiting a truly rare and exciting opportunity for an import & export customs controller to join our team based at our head office in cannock. in this role, you will ensure all of finning groups import & export compliance requirements are satisfied in an accurate and timely manner.

major job functions

a main point of contact day to day within the business for import and export queries.

log and monitor goods under ipr/eur and ensure compliance with hmrc procedures. control of imports under cfsp duty management system using customs warehouse.

drive process improvements in duty mitigation and controls surrounding trade and supply chain between gb, ni and roi (and other parts of europe).

support in the delivery of ni trader support service declarations for goods going into northern ireland branch from great britain (working with consultants in delivery of any easements).

monitor duty & vat deferments and ensure adherence to agreed limits. complete all paperwork to ensure import duty and vat is paid to hmrc in a timely manner.

analysis/review of duty charges incurred and working with accounts payable on correct allocation of charges within the business (i.e. allocation to correct cost center's).

support in cost mitigation activities for example, duty refund claim opportunities and review/delivery of a customs software solutions available to reduce reliance on third party broker costs where possible.

providing clarification on export license queries, and liaising with bis (business innovation and skills) via spire portal. keep up to date with legislative changes and communicate to the business as required.

training/educating the business regarding import/export procedures & compliance including duty mitigation and duty management process.

specific skills

experience in a similar role is essential

education and experience

experience of working in a international company with import/export knowledge of minimum 3 years

qualification from accredited trade body (desirable)

sap and dbs experience (desirable)

working environment

training to be focused in office but after training reverting to hybrid working.
