A well-established newton preschool is seeking a dynamic, energetic assistant preschool teacher to work in our two preschool classrooms beginning in september 2022. our school's philosophy focuses on the development of effective social skills, nurturing a strong self-esteem, and building a strong base of readiness skills. classroom teachers work together to develop and implement thematically-based child directed curriculum.
our school currently serves 30+ families and has 3 distinctive classrooms with children ages 2 - 5. we are open 8 am - 3 pm and we run an academic year from the beginning of september until the friday after memorial day. we are closed for all public school holidays and vacations. staff have the option of working for our summer program, which begins immediately after the school year ends and runs until the beginning of august. the school is closed for most of august
the position hours can be flexible. fridays are a must (8am-2/3pm), plus an additional 2-4 mornings and/or afternoons a week. we are looking for someone who can commit at least through the end of the school year (june 2023).
responsibilities of the position include working as part of a teaching team to plan and implement a socialization-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum; assisting with the daily routines of the classroom; and helping to carry out the overall mission of the preschool. in addition, staff are required to attend all-school staff meetings that occur periodically during the year; and to fulfill eec staff development training requirements.
successful candidates will have:
- a bachelor's degree (or working towards)
- experience working with preschool aged children
- a basic knowledge of child development
- ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
- capacity to create warm, nurturing relationships with children
- eec teacher certification is a plus
