we have an exciting opportunity for a bid estimator to join our established team, to help support a number of our projects.

as bid estimator you will be responsible evaluating and analysing project design specifications, ensuring that all resources required in preparing a bid are known and quantified. you will work closely with procurement, supply chain and production to establish the project cost base, as well as identifying estimates and define any risks to enable the team to prepare a winning bid which can deliver on time, to cost and quality.

deep understanding of the requirements for successful responses to both public bids

knowledge of selecting and working with subcontractors, procurement and suppliers to access cost data

commercial acumen

about the role of bid estimator

review bid requirements presented and liaise with customers and consultant engineers to ensure the project scope is interpreted correctly so estimates can be developed.

interpret designs and technical documents to prepare estimates, clarifying and defining materials, labour, schedule and quality standards. ensure the estimates being sought match the design specification and project management requirements.

prepare specifications for use in selecting suppliers/subcontractors and liaises with purchasing in ensuring costings can be provided.

develop rfis, secure procurement support in negotiating contracts and fixing costs for bid submission.

work with consultant engineers to develop value engineering ideas on each bid to optimise resourcing and minimise costs.

liaise with the bid co-ordinator to collate and submit all costing, budgets and supplier recommendations by the required internal deadlines.

review designs and drawings with the project management team and highlight any potential areas of concern prior to finalising estimate.

identify suppliers/materials that will not have been quantified and awarded as part of the bid process.
