if you are an experienced microwave engineer or from a physics background with a degree / phd, we are offering a challenging role in a desirable location.

flann microwave design, develop and manufacture products and solutions to suit customer needs for passive waveguide components and antennas and systems from 500 mhz to 500 ghz and beyond. flann employ the latest fea design tools such as ansys hfss, mician microwave wizard and comsol multi-physics to develop innovative products and solutions to meet their customers demanding requirements.

whilst the company has a substantial catalogue, an increasing proportion of their r&d activity and new product development focused towards providing integrated solutions: many of which are in the millimetre wave frequency bands which presents both microwave and mechanical engineering challenges.

main duties

to enable and support the sustainable growth of the business and its product and service offerings.

contribute towards development of new products and improve existing products;

support the company s sales team in their business development and commercial quoting activities;

contribute towards microwave and millimetre-wave design using 3d electromagnetic simulation and other tools;

contribute towards design of custom components and systems for use in a range of industries including aerospace, spaceflight and communications (5g and beyond);

understanding project requirements and completing all duties assigned by the team

raising concerns and making suggestions for improvement where appropriate

conducting research

participating in meeting, attending workshops and other training initiatives

analysing data and writing reports according to specifications

research and develop new technologies in anticipation their customers future requirements;

contribute to the development of new manufacturing and assembly techniques for millimetre and sub-millimetre waveguide elements;

engage with their strategic objectives and technology roadmap;

maintain good records on design and design approach;

provide technical support to test and measurement staff in the microwave laboratory;

work with managers and supervisors to implement the company s policies and business objectives;

carry out any other duties reasonable within capability as required.

person specification

technical degree (electronic engineering with an rf/microwave bias, physics, or similar), or comparable, demonstratable work experience;

previous experience in a technical field would be a advantage;

strong analytical and mathematical skills;

excellent written and verbal communication skills;

familiarity with 3d electromagnetic simulation and modelling tools, such as ansys hfss, comsol or cst;

understanding of antenna theory and design (could be an advantage);

an aptitude for solving problems and multi-tasking, often working to short timescales;

an appreciation of machining and mechanical assembly techniques;

ability to use initiative, be proactive and work effectively as part of a cross-disciplinary team;

excellent general it skills, particularly using microsoft word, excel and access;

able to work under pressure and to deadlines;

eligible to work in uk.

benefits

hours 36 hours per week

days normally monday to thursday,

salary up to gbp45,000 depending on experience

holiday 180 hours equivalent to 5 weeks

sick pay 4 weeks followed by ssp

pension 3% employee and 5% employer after 3 month qualifying period
