position purpose: the maintenance supervisor is responsible for the proper and safe operation of all physical plant, mechanical, electrical, electronic equipment, janitorial functions and grounds maintenance for the facility. provides leadership for the maintenance staff and is responsible for developing and expanding the department's knowledge in satisfying the maintenance needs of lab operations. oversees the technical and mechanical support of all equipment and facilities. supervises a team which is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the facility. perform a variety of operations to maintain production goals from a maintenance perspective. create a teamwork attitude through leadership. motivate employees for maximum productivity while maintaining an atmosphere of respect. establish and maintain a customer service attitude with production management. design a pm program to reduce machine downtime.

primary responsibilities:

• responsible for overseeing the day to day maintenance of the facility and equipment for both the coating center and lab operations specific to the industry.

• supervises and instructs the maintenance team. participate in recruitment of new team members and provide training to the new team members.

• provide technical support to production supervisors for process innovation and improvement.

• maintain close communication with lab management and lab supervisors.

• performs and directs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

• inspects completed work for conformance with requirement of local building and safety codes.

• estimate time and material cost on mechanical, electrical and building projects. responsible for managing and controlling maintenance budget and costs.

• coordinate bidding for subcontract work.

• identify and order the necessary spare and replacement parts.

• review lab up-time trends to identify significant opportunities for improvement and major causes of unscheduled downtime and spoilage/breakage.

• support and maintain computerized maintenance management systems.

• analyze the effectiveness of lab preventative and predictive maintenance activity in reducing unscheduled downtime and recommend actions to enhance maintenance effectiveness.

• investigate major reliability issues in concert with operations, technical support, contractors and vendors concerning safety and gmp problems and recommend solutions.

• provides solutions to equipment reliability issues.

• provides technical support for process technology innovation as outlined by the maintenance department’s continuous improvement program.

• supervises technicians over a three-shift operation and maintains all required preventive maintenance scheduling and records.

• implements and maintains a computerized maintenance management system for areas of responsibility.

• maintains personnel records for direct reports and adhere to company policies including counseling if necessary

• assists coating center and production supervisors with quality issues and seeks new methods of process to improve workflow.

• establishes and maintains safety, housekeeping and hazcom training programs.

• maintains parts inventory and purchasing control.

• collects data to analyze maintenance cost efficiencies

• perform other duties as required. education and qualifications:

• a minimum of 7 to 10 years of management and hands on experience in above duties

• a degree in engineering or business management a plus

• experience in a variety of manufacturing and maintenance environments.

• excellent interpersonal skills with the capacity to handle projects and serve as the focal point for communications between multiple departments/facilities.

• strong working knowledge of computer and common software programs

• background in vacuum coating

• excellent organizational skills

• prior safety and chemical handling training experience

• excellent computer skills, microsoft outlook and office
• consistent good performance in current job

• ability to work well with others

• excellent oral and written communications skills

• 5-8 years of mechanical and electrical repair experience on optical equipment.

• ability to learn complex equipment functions.

• ability to overcome obstacles and have the organizational skills necessary to complete assignments in a timely manner.

• must be able to read
