we have a new opportunity for a senior project engineer to join us at babcock devonport, within laboratory services, as part of the business support team. laboratory services is part of the technical services function that is responsible for the provision of technical support across devonport royal dockyard and the wider babcock.

who we are looking for?

we are looking for you to be proactive and enthusiastic with an ability to establish strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders at various levels. we are looking for you to have good general commercial experience, this could be from a procurement, subcontracting, quotations, capital expenditure, financial or legal background with a desire to develop and learn new skills. you will have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to explain reasoning behind decisions. you will also be able to adapt to changing situations and requirements from stakeholders.

what will you be doing?

as senior project engineer, you will supervise and report on records and communications for cost centre spend and be the point of contact from external requests, acting as the interface between all sections and the commercial function, supporting in understanding and meeting of their financial commitments.

your responsibilities will include, but won't be limited to:

• leading strategies for purchasing and subcontracting

• interfacing with category leads, procurement, quality assurance, expenditure, and commercial support teams

• managing procurement records and financial communications

• reviewing needs against capital and department budget availability

• assisting and submitting capital expenditure to forecast plan and coordinate successful completion of purchase.

• determining needs for subcontractor auditing with quality assurance engineers

• supporting varied improvement projects

the experience you'll bring

• you'll be either qualified with a level 4 qualification or have equivalent in a business / procurement / legal / commercial discipline or have suitable relevant experience

• good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with others within various teams.

• an ability to adapt to changing situations and requirements

you will need to satisfy security requirements. this may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'security check' (sc) clearance.
