our head of logistics
starting from scratch, you will plan and oversee the development of a centralised logistics and operations support function of the organisation. this will mean consolidating multiple existing processes, policies and teams into one streamlined operation.
you will have full budget ownership and varied responsibilities, allowing you to organise and implement optimal processes and workflow by means of shaping the organisational shape of the team and the implementation of specialist software systems such as warehouse management and fleet and rote planning
you will report directly to the director of commerce and develop deep and effective relationships with other directors and key heads of functions such as supply and procurement, engineering, it and finance.
key responsibilities
to plan, build and lead a robust centralised logistics function that provides vital support to four revenue-generating divisions of the company.
to own the budget of the logistics function, ensuring efficient level of resource
to apply vast expertise and experience to establish optimal processes and workflows into operations and overseeing its continuous improvement.
to ensure required operational capacity is delivered across fulfilment and distribution functions for both typical demand and peaks during key seasonal periods and events.
to coordinate and oversee delivery of all strategic projects in both the operations infrastructure such as expansion and fitting of the distribution centre, configuration of fleet vehicles as well as integration and continuous development of a warehouse management system and other systems.
to ensure effective planning of short-term contingencies via an optimal combination of employed and agency contracted resources as well as spare equipment.
to plan scaling of the operation to accommodate continuous long-term future growth, including timely implementation of efficient shift work patterns that could eventually lead to 24/7/365 operation.
to deliver efficient storage and inventory management and to perform continuous optimisation of warehousing capacity
to ensure the highest level of quality through effective control processes across the whole logistical lifecycle of products and customer orders.
to ensure implementation and strict compliance with the health & safety policy
to coordinate and ensure delivery of operational support: risk assessments, sop management, security, waste management & recycling, cleaning, property maintenance, equipment and consumables
to provide means for continuous professional training and performance assessment of the team members
to manage effective performance assessment framework and to ensure effective measurement and communication of operational and performance reporting
to drive improvements in cost efficiency and positive returns to scale through continuous optimisation of processes and usage of human and capital resources.
qualifications and experience
5+ years of proven track record experience in senior management of logistics operations with speciality in either of the areas: warehousing, distribution, fulfilment, supply chain management
experience of successful leadership in running large, distributed teams with a high degree of delegation and autonomy
experience of scaling up operational output capacity and efficiency via re-structure of labour, equipment and facilities on-demand and with short notice
experience of successful implementation and management of specialised warehouse management, distribution and procurement software systems.
high confidence in working with complex processes, its streamlining and automating for efficiency improvement and cost minimisation.
high numerical literacy, data-driven approach in decision-making via effective measurement and assessment of operational performance.
proactive with great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with team members and stakeholders at all levels
optional experience as a bonus factor:
direct experience working in high-volume transactional b2c environments, either ecommerce or/and bricks & mortar retail
experience of successful implementation and management of a multiple-shift, 24/7 operation.
