we currently use a hadoop system and utilise hive and spark, currently favouring ; lloyds banking group has also signed up to a strategic partnership with google to utilise their cloud platform services (gcp) to create a new strategic platform for the group to prepare our bank of the future service for customers.what exactly what i be responsible for?as a big data engineer you will deliver the highest quality data processing and analytical systems, drawing upon your engineering and coding expertise, whilst being open minded to the opportunities the cloud ; example of specific activities include;design & implementation of data processing for batch & real time delivery of information to end users.interpreting & analysing business user cases and feature requests to translate those into test cases & technical designs.development tasks, participating in scrum events & user story refinementcollaborating with internal teams to produce high level system designs and recommendations into architecture decisions.support & mentor more junior colleagueswhat do we want to see from applicants?we like to see people from different cultural & industry background ; this is a wholly hands-on role and you will need to have worked in a similar position before, specifically we'll be looking for the following in your cv;prior experience as a big data engineer or similar role involving same activities.technical knowledge of the hadoop framework and an understanding of commonly associated modules such as hdfs, yarn, hive and kafka.experience developing applications in scala, with a keen interest in functional programming principles.strong sql coding skills, ideally both relational & dimensional data modelling.knowledge of apache spark data processing frameworkfamiliarity with continuous integration tools including at least one of the following and training can be given on others; maven, sbt, jenkins, git, nexus, urbancodefamiliar testing using frameworks such as scalateston a personal level we would want to see a passion for what can be done with big data systems, excellent people and communication skills, including the ability to influence and effectively communicate with a wide variety of technical and non-technical ;what support will i get and how will my career grow?as a multi-brand, multi-channel business, we have the scale and breadth to provide you with a diverse range of training and development opportunities, helping you achieve a rewarding and fulfilling career. the sheer size of lloyds provides many opportunities.
