st martins are a london based provider of registered care and supported accommodation for people with mental health needs. currently, we can support up to 85 people, and we have projects in islington, haringey, brent and lambeth with some exciting plans for all our services. we are an ambitious organisation, aiming to provide high quality services which are recognised for being effective, flexible and service user focused. our housing stock is currently made up of the following properties: wilton villas, islington 28 bed registered care home. new north road, islington 18 bed registered care home. wilton square, islington 3 bed supported accommodation. caledonian road, islington 6 s/c flats supported accommodation. davenant road, islington 12 studio flats supported accommodation. chalkhill road, brent 20 bed registered care home. rutford road, lambeth 18 bed supported accommodation. we work closely with statutory mental health services and our partner agencies to provide a recovery based approach. our aim is to provide our service users with the opportunity to progress from our services, onto living more independently within the community. the role will be key in supporting the development of our care services moving forwards, as we formalise our referral, assessment and placement pathways by making them more effective and personalised. 1 job purpose: a) the main purpose of the role will be to provide leadership to all unit based staff, and ensure a high quality, therapeutic service is delivered on a 24 hour basis b) this is a post which works shifts and is within the unit establishment c) support the delivery of evidence based best practice d) manage team performance on shift, demonstrate positive values and support ensuring key targets are met e) provide a consistent approach to service user care, which is focused on the recovery star approach f) ensure effective systems to promote both safety and security are deployed g) participate in the manager's on-call system to provide the first point of contact for unit based staff, outside of normal working hours h) ensure audit actions plans are implemented i) foster a culture of development, and support j) demonstrate a positive and objective attitude and behaviours in everyday practice k) support day to day operational management in relation to clinical risk, care planning, staffing, and assessment l) ensure st martins policy and procedures are maintained m) facilitate full compliance with the cqc and any other relevant regulators/statutory bodies n) monitor that legislation is complied with o) ensure incidents are always reported using the datix system p) maintain 'patient' safety standards q) complete any reasonable requests, including deputising for senior staff and/or supporting colleagues in different units when required r) ensuring compliance with hr processes including holidays/sickness absence et 2 main duties and responsibilities: the role will require the following of the post-holder: a) provide day-to-day operational support to the unit team b) ensure budgeted staffing is maintained c) ensure all practices are concordant with st martins policy d) lead on role modelling st martins values e) provide support, advice and leadership on the unit f) support the achievement of targets set by commissioners/cqc etc. g) facilitate managerial and clinical supervision of unit staff, and document on the bamboo hr system h) provide leadership, and drive up the standards of practice i) support in managing emergencies, and debriefing staff following incidents j) communicate with colleagues to effectively meet identified residents' needs k) communicate the needs of residents effectively. l) demonstrate best practice techniques in managing the prevention & management of abusive, aggressive and/or challenging behaviour m) ensure legal and professional responsibilities are met to ensure all mental health legislation is adhered to n) support and manage comments, compliment, concerns, and complaints and escalate as per policy o) maintain high quality delivery of assessments, care and support planning, implementation and evaluation of residents' care from admission to discharge p) maintain high standards of clinical care q) ensure, where required and if indicated, the residents receive support with their activities of daily living r) deliver personal care including support with bathing/pad changing etc. if this is indicated and the person requires this level of support s) ensure that the recovery star approach is effectively deployed t) report incidents ensuring the correct reporting procedure is implemented u) provide oral reports on the activities of the team and other significant matters v) initiate, develop and implement new ideas for the improvement of services in conjunction with colleagues w) assume overall responsibility for ensuring service user records are maintained and that the information therein meets the requirements laid out by the commissioning and regulatory bodies x) ensure there is a safe and welcoming environment for staff, residents and visitors y) attend clinical audit and governance meetings as required and disseminate learning to the team z) support effective rota planning that meets the needs of the client group aa) maintain the st martins duty rota and ensure staffing levels are adhered to bb) ensure that all clinical and operational polices are followed cc) ensure that the residents' rights and dignity are maintained by all staff dd) manage and escalate concerns regards care and treatment and promote the whistleblowing policy so staff are aware of how it works ee) ensure confidentiality for service users, staff and the organisation are maintained ff) promote st martins positively gg) take responsibility for monitoring mandatory training hh) actively engage in annual appraisals and competency assessments ii) work across the unit as required and ensure environments are maintained in a clean and orderly manner jj) ensure high levels of hygiene and infection control systems are maintained and ensure the actions of all staff on the unit reduces risks to health & safety kk) form a part of the out of hours on call rota as required the increased salary will be paid upon completion of probationary period job types: full-time, permanent salary:
