tml is a specialist intermediary-only mortgage lender that provides products and criteria that meet the needs of borrowers who are not served by the high street.

the role & responsibilities

working with the head of quality & control in the 1st line of defence controls team, the quality manager will support the wider leadership team, the board of directors and other governance committees through the oversight and application of the company's policies including credit, vulnerable customers, anti-financial crime.

you will lead the development and application of an enhanced oversight framework ensuring that they remain in line with company and regulatory expectations and industry best practice.

quality duties and responsibilities of the job include:

development and management of an appropriate framework, allowing proactive and reactive oversight of underwriting quality aligned to risk appetite, fair customer outcome standards and align with our requirements and regulations

supporting and performing risk assessment: analysing current risks and identifying potential risks that are affecting the company

preparing and delivering outputs from the oversight framework to senior stakeholders and appropriate governance committees with recommendations for approval

work with operations, operational and other risk teams to ensure the correct outcome for the company is achieved

performing a risk evaluation: supporting the risk control self-assessment cycle, evaluating the company's previous handling of risks, and comparing potential risks with criteria set out by the company such as financial impact, customer impact and regulatory requirements

supporting 1st line management to understand, assess and manage key risks and controls, to help create better business decisions

working with 2nd and 3rd line to develop appropriate approaches for the company

development and delivery of insightful risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience. conducting risk reviews, which will include liaising with internal and external stakeholders

supporting changes to policies and/or key documents, engaging with appropriate stakeholders

people leader to a small team, providing strategy and vision, inspiring trust and developing potential

building risk awareness amongst staff by providing support, education, and training.

the person

our ideal candidate will be a credit risk professional, with:

a background of credit risk decision making, as well as experience in quality management and framework development

excellent problem solving, analytical and data skills, combined with the ability to apply those skills across business processes

the ability to provide confident and credible challenge to senior stakeholders within the business

great communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to form effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders

people leader experience in a team of risk professionals

exposure to operational and conduct risk, the required regulatory and legal standards and industry best practice and systems

an appropriate knowledge of the commercial, legislative, and regulatory framework as they relate to mortgage lending; and

experience of engaging and challenging senior leaders including through appropriate governance committees.
