as the activity transportation driver, you will provide non-emergency transportation service for residents to and from hospitals, doctor's appointments, and grocery shopping and sponsored excursions within maricopa county. this position supports our independent living residents. primary responsibilities include maintaining the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services. interacts with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.

position summary:
under the direction of the ancillary services manager, provide non-emergency transportation service for residents. serve as a representative of royal oaks, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with all residents and co-workers.

major duties and responsibilities:
provide transportation to residents to and from hospitals, doctor’s appointments, and grocery shopping or sponsored excursions.

maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services. interacts with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.

maintain radio contact with dispatcher for delivery instructions.

fuel and clean vehicle as needed; responsible for routine maintenance, servicing and repairs of vehicles.

ensure residents have seat belts fastened properly and wheelchair brakes are locked and secured in place.

follow all applicable traffic and vehicular safety rules and regulations.

when necessary, lifts, moves, and transports residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices.

interacts courteously and appropriately with residents, family members, visitors, and other staff members under a variety of conditions and circumstances.

follow facility policy and procedure for reporting and documenting any incidents/accidents or variances of standard operations.

assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment. reports all deficiencies to the appropriate person, such as equipment problems, need for repair or special needs of residents.

performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves and other personal protective equipment where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.

able to work within a time schedule with minimal supervision.

may perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

attends and participates in training activities, meetings and seminars.

knowledge and skills:
-must be 21 years of age or older
-must possess a valid cdl c driver's license with p endorsement
-read and speak english
-must possess a valid cdl c driver’s license with p (passenger endorsement)
-must provide current medical card and copy of current mvr, reviewed annually.
-ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
-ability to read maps and locate addresses.
-follow written and oral instructions.
-reaction time - the ability to quickly respond (with hand, finger, or foot) to one signal (sound, light, picture, etc.) when it appears.
-far and near vision – the ability to see things close at hand (such as signs) or at a distance.
-operation and control – controlling operations of equipment.
-equipment maintenance – performing routine maintenance checks and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

education and experience:
-high school diploma or ged equivalent required
-preferably three years experience in a commercial driving position.
-has cpr, first aid and fingerprint card or can obtain one within 30 days of hire. we will assist with this.
-ensures competency in the position is maintained through continuing education.

communication skills:
-has a clear speaking voice and is fluent in english.
-able to speak, work, and interface with all levels of co-workers, residents, guests, and employees.
-demonstrates excellent customer service etiquette.

physical requirements:
-has current valid arizona driver’s license and a good driving record.
-can work alone most of the time.
-is able to stand, walk, sit, reach, and bend.
-is able to operate a fire extinguisher.
-must carry/lift/push or pull loads of up to 50 pounds.
-must be able to hear normal to raised voices and see 50 feet; prosthetics can be used for correction.
-work involves almost constant exposure to weather conditions while driving residents and with some work indoors in a climate controlled environment.
-physical exertion is present due to frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, sitting, twisting or standing for prolonged periods of time; general manual dexterity required.

-pants or shorts, are not supplied, any solid color, any type, professional, no sport shorts/pants

-quantity 1, 4-passenger + 2 wheelchair with rear loading for wheelchair. (2019 ford transit van)
-quantity 2, 14-passenger vans with side loading wheelchair. (ford chassis with starcraft upfit)
-quantity 1, 6-passenger with 3 wheel chair – side loading. (ford chassis with starcraft upfit)
-quantity 1, 4-passenger, with manual side loading wheelchair. (dodge caravan)
-quantity 10+, golf carts
-aforementioned list subject to change.
