under the direction of an rn is responsible for patient safety, welfare, and the implementation of therapeutic milieu and treatment plans. serve as a patient observer on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require any degree of observation in order to maximize patient safety. perform general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficiency of the nursing unit.

job duties & responsibilities:

provide direct clinical care to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed registered nurse or other licensed clinical personnel. serve as a nurse technician or certified nursing assistant (cna) in behavioral health performing the duties expected of an incumbent in this role to include: assisting patients with personal hygiene needs, patient transportation, testing and assessments, etc. maintain a current knowledge base of current trends and widely accepted practices as it relates to patient care in a mental health program; maintain licensure and certifications required by st. francis hospital and subsequent regulatory agencies. maintain a clean, safe, and patient friendly work environment; ensure supplies are stocked and available; demonstrate proper body mechanics; operate equipment in the appropriate manner; answer calls and inquiries quickly and redirect to the appropriate contact when necessary. attend required safety training and reinforce training mandates to co-workers. follow the hospitals exposure control plan/bloodborne and airborne pthogens. maintain and regularly demonstrate a respect and regard for the dignity of all patients families, visitors, and fellow employees; ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. promote an atmosphere of collaboration; facilitate effective working relations; contribute to the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives. other duties as assigned. 

minimum education:

high school diploma or completion of ged equivalent. two (2) years of collegiate coursework to include general psychology, interpersonal communication, abnormal psychology, and/or human growth and development is preferred.

minimum experience:

no experience required. one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

certificaton/licensure(s):

currently certified through the american heart association to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr). certified nursing assistant (cna) is preferred.

knowledge, skills, and abilities:

knowledge of basic medical terminology. knowledge and general understanding of how to use a personal computer (pc). communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate in english both verbally and in writing. interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with persons of various personality types and levels within the organization. ability to move, lift, and relocate patients and equipment. ability to be detail oriented and accurate in documenting information.
