River tour guide - united kingdom, cambridge bay

Founded in 1910 scudamore's is cambridge's premier punt tour and boat hire company. as we prepare for our main season we are seeking lively, outgoing and commercially-minded individuals to promote and deliver our award-winning tours of the college backs. as a river tour guide at scudamore’s you will act as an ambassador for cambridge, inspiring our customers through the use of engaging and interactive content on your tours. you will also be part of the on-the-day promotional operation at our punt stations, providing information and ticket sales to potential customers. whilst previous sales, tour guiding or punting experience would be useful it is not essential as we will provide all the skills and knowledge training that you’ll require to launch your punting career. we operate a rolling recruitment programme, with regular training courses running from february 2022. what's involved? delivering a memorable punt tour that is informative, inspiring and entertaining. offering effective and courteous ticket sales within a competitive environment. giving a warm, considerate and attentive welcome to all customers. maintaining a safe working environment on station and on the river. providing a timely, consistently high quality service in line with our standards and company values. what makes you a scudamore’s river tour guide? you’re friendly, approachable and enthusiastic, with great interpersonal skills. you enjoy engaging with people and are committed to providing outstanding customer service. you’re a confident public speaker and have an excellent command of spoken english. you’re self-motivated, keen to learn, and have the ability to absorb and share knowledge. you’re physically active, energetic and enjoy working outdoors. what would also help? a good knowledge of cambridge. experience of working in a customer-facing role. previous sales or tour guiding experience. a passion for history and architecture. fluency in another language. our training process this training is unique to us and is the gold standard for visitor attractions in cambridge. it is structured as a 1-week immersive course, combining classroom learning at scudamore’s with practical sessions on the river and opportunities for additional self-practice. there is then a practical assessment at the end of the course. what’s the package? highly competitive pay, offering a combination of hourly pay, a fixed rate per tour and uncapped sales commission. you keep all of your tips. flexible working, with both full-time and part-time roles available. 28 days’ paid holiday per annum (pro rata for part-time staff). based at premium cambridge city centre locations. uniform provided. special demands of the role this role is physically demanding and requires you to remain on your feet throughout the working day in various weather conditions. in addition, the punting element requires good balance and an appropriate level of fitness. please note, as with all of the other criteria above, these requirements may be tested at interview. need to know we operate an equal opportunities policy and recruit only on the basis of work criteria and individual merit. by law we are required to ensure that anyone taking up employment at scudamore's has a legal right to work in the uk and you will be required to demonstrate this.
