job description:
our partner, a national provider of diagnostic testing, has an immediate need for laboratory assistants at their location in charlotte, nc. this position will require preparing laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. shift: monday-friday, 8:30am-5pm
responsibilities:
lab assistant will take temperatures, handle specimen processing (scan specimen, review the specimen for clots), will load analyzers with specimens and run qc tests on the analyzers
will conduct specimen investigations: if a specimen is lost to determine where the specimen may have gone
will conduct specimen management: scan specimens put it on their rack in the assigned slot so that if the specimen needs to be retrieved it can be easily located
will place supply orders for the lab and additional duties as assigned
will be wearing ppe on site all day (gloves, lab coat, face-shield, mask)
enters patient/sample information in the computer system
assigns specific computer-generated identification numbers, checks for accuracy and records all items processed
operates data entry terminals and automated data systems, follows standard sequences/coding when entering data and corrects, edits, and/or verifies data entered into automated systems
handle a high volume of specimen each day (blood, urine, saliva etc)
prepare all specimen received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as staging of specimen, centrifuge, separate serum, and blood smears
may perform data entry of test requisition information
aliquot and separate samples for departments
prepare excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and document problem specimen
answer telephones, maintain logs/records
education requirements:
high school diploma or equivalent, associates in medical technology preferred
desired background/skills:
qualifications:
experience performing repetitive tasks in a fast-paced work environment
experience utilizing computerized databases
familiarity with lab equipment is preferred but not required
effective written and verbal communication
ability to research information
staying active and attentive to details
ability to multitask
work unsupervised and work well with others
ability to lift up to 30 lbs
proper identification of known hazardous material in the work place
must comply with applicable safety procedures
