job purpose

oversee all operators and production needs specific to your shift. create and maintain an environment that encourages all to adhere to the high safety, and quality standards volm companies has put in place to ensure we remain the mvp to our customers, vendors and partners and do it in a way that exemplifies volm’s mission statement, core values and vision statement.

duties and responsibilities

•    responsible for safety, production, quality, housekeeping, discipline and morale.

•    operate any and all machines as needed or required for production purposes. 

•    assign work, set priorities and otherwise carry out the production schedule for the department.

•    verify production and inventory counts or other planning activities as may be required.

•    walk the floor often to assess operator and machine performance checking for any nonproductive issues.

•    communicate often and effectively with other shifts, supervisors and dept. mgr. any needs or concerns.

•    general maintenance on all machines.

•    be on the floor and verify operators are operating machines, making sure they are doing their job, walking the floor.

•    verify changeovers, check settings on machines before, during and after the shift.

•    report attendance infractions in writing to the office

•    approve/deny pto for your reports

•    report all accidents and near misses in guardian accident reporting.

•    investigate and document all accidents and report your findings in writing to safety and the plant manager.

•    review, correct and approve adp transactions for your reports.

•    create and maintain career paths and effectively coach, encourage and discipline (as needed) your reports.

•    any other duties deemed necessary for the success of the company by volm management. 

•    create sops incorporating safe work practices.

•    lead process improvements using value stream mapping findings.

qualifications

•    safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection

•    requires education generally equivalent to four years of high school

•    must be able to read, write and do simple math calculations and conversions. 

•    must be able to enter data into the computer system manually or by electronic scanner

•    must have the ability to follow directions and safety procedures

•    possess at least three months experience in company procedures and become proficient in the duties of the job.

•    must have the ability to operate lift equipment either pallet jack or lift truck and battery controlled lifts.

physical requirements

•    standing and walking 90% of the shift

•    have the ability to lift up to 60 lbs. 

•    be able to push, pull, squat, bend or reach as required.

•    be able to handle, grasp, tie threads/tapes and perform repetitive motions

•    have eye/hand/foot coordination

•    must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 60 degrees to 90+ depending on the season and the department

•    must have the ability to operate lift equipment either pallet jack or lift truck and battery-controlled lifts
