high school grad or equivalency 3+ years of contemporary hospital pharmacy experience certified pharmacy tech or pharmacy intern sterile compounding & aseptic technique-iv cert course current certification from nationally recognized board/association

job summary:

the pharmacy technician supervisor has primary responsibility for the pharmacy automation systems, technician scheduling, technician pdo/sick coverage and technician assignments. other facility specific assignments may include patient billing and inventory management activities.  if applicable for the facility, information systems must be accessed for pharmacy charge data, ahs cdm databases, wholesaler, purchase files, automated dispensing systems, pharmaceutical contracts and data files.

qualifications

you will be responsible for:

pharmacy operations

actively performs all pharmacy technician functions and maintains active proficiency in:

      standard work parameters       operational programs       delivery and compounding systems       hospital computer systems       medication ordering systems

maintains operational expertise in and actively provides coverage of the technician services provided by

      central pharmacy       iv room       delivery       controlled substances       oncology compounding       quality assurance & sampling       technician inventory check       medication history       clinical services       regulatory compliance       designated trainer       quality assurance auditing

oversees appropriate utilization of medication automation, technology, and computer systems

      accurately interprets electronic records       maintains expertise in cerner processes       manages proper and complete patient profile record

accurately oversees the management of medication inventories and the preparation and delivery of patient‐specific medication doses

      manages medication delivery activities       prepares accurate medication products for delivery       prevents improper drug, dose, dosage form selection, expiration dating, and barcode scanning issues when checking products       performs oral and injectable product compounding

supervises technician and intern practice

      maintains appreciation for and competency to perform technician duties and roles as needed       prioritizes work load, organizes work flow, and checks accuracy of pharmacy technician activities       intervenes as needed to optimize the patient-centered pharmacy services provided in/by practice area

facilitates medication safety practices

      identifies, mitigates, and reports potential medication errors such as look‐alike sound-alike medications

maintains continuous learning and pharmacy practice development

      maintains personal continuing education plan including documentation of an annual self‐evaluation and plan for self-development       completes ce modules as part of pharmacy technician licensure renewal

provides patient‐centered care services

      provides accurate, safe and timely medication therapy

effectively collaborates with other hospital departments and strategic business unit leader to advance patient care services and pharmacy programs

supervises, coordinates, and oversees pharmacy care services and direct patient care programs in a clinical pharmacy division

      supervises all activities within assigned patient service lines and operational areas

works as an active member of pharmacy clinical programs and multidisciplinary team

      collaborates with other pharmacy staff       collaborates with care providers and pharmacist to optimize care and improve services

provides support to direct patient care programs

places practice priority on the delivery of patient‐centered care identifies high‐risk patients and implements interventions to improve quality and safety proficiently maintains patient information and efficiently evaluates patients’ health care needs

provides coverage of decentralized pharmacy practice areas

provides medication histories in decentralized areas as assigned and supports other areas as needed

maintains expertise and continuity‐of practice in all care areas of:

cardiology pharmacy division critical care pharmacy division emergency medicine pharmacy division internal medicine pharmacy division neurology pharmacy division oncology pharmacy division surgery pharmacy division
