Job description the loudoun county department of transportation and capital infrastructure is seeking a self-motivated transportation engineer within the department's traffic engineering team. this critical position will be responsible for managing traffic engineering and active transportation projects that address transportation-related safety and operation problems in residential communities and along arterial and collector roadways, identifying possible solutions based on-site visits and available crash and traffic volume data, and reviewing traffic engineering studies, analyses, recommended solutions, pavement marking plans and traffic signal timing plans. this position also provides oversight of and serves as a department liaison for, shared mobility device operations within the county. the transportation engineer will assist with the county's residential permit parking districts, traffic calming, and other traffic engineering programs and services. this position also shares team responsibilities for conveying the county's vision for ultimate buildout conditions, including bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, along the countywide transportation plan roadways. the transportation engineer will work closely with elected officials and their aides, community leaders, county and vdot staff at various position levels, developers, engineering consultants, and utility owners. this position will need to make sound engineering recommendations and assist with providing technical engineering alternatives and solutions to difficult and complex transportation issues that will result in the safe and efficient movement of people and goods based on engineering principles complying with federal, state, and local laws, policies and guidelines. the successful candidate must possess strong project management skills, leadership qualities, and technical knowledge in traffic engineering and bicycle/pedestrian facilities with a proven track record of successfully working with various stakeholders. job requirements bachelor’s degree in engineering from a four-year college or university accredited by the accreditation board for engineering and technologies with coursework related to the assigned area; three (3) years of related professional engineering and construction management work experience with direct design as well as administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. preferred skills include experience in managing transportation projects, and addressing traffic safety and operational analysis. knowledge of federal and state regulations, design standards, and specifications related to traffic engineering and bicycle/pedestrian facilities. ability to articulate technical information orally and in writing to lay and technical audiences. experience working with the public, elected officials, and other organizations on transportation matters. proficiency with microsoft office applications such as word, excel, powerpoint, and outlook, as well as gis.

hiring range: $68,970.58- $94,834.54 salary commensurate with experience

special requirements this position requires occasional attendance at evening/night meetings. professional engineer certification is preferred. post conditional offer contingencies

this position may qualify for relocation assistance in accordance with county policy. this position requires a valid driver's license, driving record, credit, and criminal background check.
