Eaton’s controls power conversion division is seeking a lead mechanical engineer. the lead mechanical engineer will be based at our menomonee falls, wi location. position overview: this role is responsible for the design, simulation, implementation and validation of mechanical components and assemblies associated with eaton’s reduced voltage soft starts (rvss’s) and variable frequency drives (vfd’s) applied in industrial motor starting applications. this position offers the opportunity for exposure to a variety of npd related tools and technologies(simulation, hardware in the loop, advanced laboratory test equipment and others) as well as technical leadership together with customer and stakeholder facing experience. primary responsibilities will include both new product development and support of existing products and cost outs. the candidate will work within all phases of eaton’s new product development process (prolaunch) to develop new products (requirements definition, concept, prototype, design, validation and release for manufacturing). this position will reside in an eaton divisional headquarters building, which houses engineering for multiple product lines as well as marketing, sales, finance, and r&d. the facility was built in 2012 and boasts an open office layout surrounded by large windows, as well as 50,000+ square feet of onsite state-of-the-art laboratory space. the division actively sponsors wellness and community involvement committees which organize team sports, company outings, and volunteer events throughout the establish and document new product requirements by collaborating with marketing, other technical personnel and customers. utilize eaton’s npd process as a framework for all product development. develop thorough and appropriate documentation for all new and existing product work. design, validate & release mechanical/electro-mechanical portion of reduced voltage soft start and variable frequency drive product designs by utilizing solidworks, creo or similar eaton design tools. lead portions of the development of electro-mechanical designs per the requirements set forth for the intended application, directing the mechanical related activities of a sub-project team as needed. conduct simulation related to mechanical, electro-mechanical and thermal portion of design with the intent of speeding time to market, reducing project risk and increasing product quality. direct and work with lab personnel to develop tests and perform testing to validate proper product functionality. apply knowledge of industry and certification standards to ensure proper product compliance (ul, ce, iec, etc.). learn and apply design for six sigma concepts to both npd and sustaining engineering activities. conduct failure analysis and develop solutions to issues. work with manufacturing plant, product integrity and/or field sales personnel to identify root cause and appropriate solutions. establish project and product cost estimates and time estimates. coordinate and communicate with other disciplines to ensure project success. other disciplines include marketing, industrialization, test engineering, designers and technicians. drive engineering cost reductions in existing products. perform other duties as required to achieve departmental and divisional qualifications: bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institute. minimum of 4 years of experience designing electro-mechanical systems related to solid state power electronics (housings, thermal bus/bar and heat sink designs). knowledge and experience utilizing mechanical cad design tools. must be able to work in the united states without corporate sponsorship now and within the future no relocation benefit is being offered for this position. only candidates within a 50-mile radius of menomonee falls, wi will be considered. active duty military service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation. preferred qualifications: knowledge and experience related to thermal simulation applied to power electronics. experience and knowledge related to structured new product development processes. experience related to electro-mechanical bus bar design, lugs and current sense. knowledge related to pertinent agency and certification standards related to industrial motor starting (iec, ce, ul) dfss or dmaic knowledge/certification. master’s degree in mechanical engineering and/or dual degree in electrical engineering. experience related to product line/manufacturing support. experience utilizing ansys for thermal simulation. knowledge and experience related to plastic part design and associated molding knowledge and experience related to stamped part design and associated design for manufacturability/tooling. position criteria: ability to coordinate and communicate with other disciplines to ensure project
