Business analyst (midstream projects) - united states, bridgeport

position summary

 

under general direction, compile and analyze data to help the team in its decision-making process for a myriad of activities. collaborate with project managers (pm), project planning, procurement, engineering, land administration, finance, accounting and other teams within the company to help provide moderately complex analysis on project related data. identify problems and opportunities with regard to the company’s capex projects, expected expenditures and provide solutions to help the midstream projects group achieve its goals. help aggregate and monitor data metrics for the forecasting of future projects and to ensure all reporting needs are met. 

essential duties and responsibilities

 

compile, assess, and prepare budgeting and forecasting information for senior management.prepare and conduct analysis for long-range plans for pipeline installations, facility installations and inventory management.with limited guidance, create and maintain an aggregated program schedule for construction activities. coordinate with pm’s with each schedule to capture changes and ensure accuracy.document and analyze program progress by tracking aggregate construction activity such as mileage, pay items, and budget. identify trends and provide recommendations for efficiencies.assist to create and track key performance indicators such as dollars per foot, weekly miles per crew, percent change orders, etc. to rank and compare contractors.with some oversight, prepare request for proposals (rfp’s) for bulk materials including pipe, valves, fittings, equipment and fabricated assemblies.track purchase orders and work orders for bulk materials and yard management. process bulk material invoices and provide analysis on monthly aggregate spending.prepare pipeline material forecasts in coordination with pm’s and the appropriate contractor. provide analysis on anticipated shortages and provide recommendations on the timing of new material orders.coordinate periodic team meetings, prepare the agenda, provide analysis on the project team performance trends such as cost, safety and progress metrics for discussion, document action items, and follow-up until outstanding items are closed. prepare project reporting to business units to meet internal and external requirements. document and monitor business processes to identify opportunities and recommend controls to improve data management and reporting.coordinate with the pms to ensure accuracy of reporting, including budgets, progress metrics and accruals.

assist in the preparation of executive quarterly and annual reports. assist in the preparation of technical presentations. assist with miscellaneous requests from other departments.perform other duties as assigned. 

qualifications  

 

required education, experience, licensure

 

high school diploma or equivalent.at least two (2) years of project management, finance, estimating, engineering, military or related experience.possess valid driver’s license and clean driving record (mvr) that meet company’s insurance qualifications to operate company vehicle.

preferred education, experience, licensure

bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, project management, engineering, construction management or related discipline.at least five (5) years or more of project management, business, estimating, engineering, finance or related experience. 

required core competencies – knowledge, skills, and abilities

 

good working knowledge of microsoft office suite most importantly including excel, word, ms project, powerpoint, etc. and use/operation of standard office equipment.good knowledge of project management principles.excellent written and verbal communication skills to interface with management, colleagues, field personnel, and business contacts.good understanding of financial and accounting principles.ability to read engineering documents and create budgetary project estimates.good conflict management skills, with the ability to operate in a high stress environment with a calm and professional demeanor. able to plan, analyze, evaluate data, build and maintain reports. able to be a detail oriented, self-starter, and work independently while maintaining goals and tasks.ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally.

job is performed in the office and in the field overseeing operations.approximately 80% in the office and 20% in the field. specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

this position may be subject to:

exposure to computer screens and requires regular use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. extreme cold and heat: temperatures typically below 32o f or above 100o f for periods of more than one hour.        consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions as wind, rain, snow, and humidity.hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals, combustibles, and explosives.

physical demands

the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. the employee will minimally lift, push, carry and/or move up to 25 pounds. be able to regularly bend, stoop, crouch, etc.

travel requirements

 

occasional travel to company’s supply yard and field operations.
