summary:

responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of employees in general maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds and equipment. responsible for maintaining electrical, plumbing, mechanical and related systems. performs work of maintenance employees as required. determines material, equipment and supplies to be used. coordinates or installs, inspects, repairs and maintains electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems in related areas. performs general repairs such as painting, patching walls, minor carpentry and cleaning as required. may approve work time for direct reports.

job duties/responsibilities

responsible for coordinating and supervising maintenance tasks performed on facilities and equipment. maintains production equipment in a manner that meets organization standards and ensures minimum equipment downtime. includes checking stock to determine inventory levels anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies by placing, expediting orders and verifying receipts.  establishes and maintains preventive maintenance programs and procedures for, but not limited to, cranes, forklifts and man lifts as required.  also establish pm requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools and production machines by following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications to troubleshooting malfunctions.  locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devises in operation, listening for problems, using precision measuring and testing instruments. controls downtime by informing production and working with them to complete preventive maintenance on machinery needed. provides support by responding to requests for mechanical and electrical problems. oversees mechanics/technicians that repair and maintain equipment. administers training programs to ensure proper operations, preventive maintenance, and repair programs and procedures. maintains inventory of spare parts. maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. job requirements

skills/knowledge

must be a self-starter, flexible, highly motivated and prepared to travel as needed. good communication and interpersonal skills, good technical skills, strong supervisory skills, knowledge of machinery and equipment as it relates to the applicable product line. knowledge in maintenance supplies, equipment, materials and methods of repair related to shop machinery and general building upkeep. computer skills necessary.

education

high school diploma or ged equivalent.  minimum eighteen months of education and training beyond high school level in general maintenance and repair.

experience

2 years’ experience in general maintenance or other maintenance responsibilities that would include the ability to recognize electrical, plumbing and mechanical malfunctions or equipment failures.
