position summary

the controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

the controller position reports directly to cfo, and works closely with other key staff, including the executive team, all department heads, and the project management team.

responsibilities

accounting leadership

maintains internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements.maintains rigorous monthly closing schedule managementconsistently analyzes financial data and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitors progress and changes and keeps senior leadership abreast of the financial status of the companies.assists leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.coordinates all audit activity.oversees and completes all tax planning, year end financials, and tax returnsmanages cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with others; continuously collaborates with leadership to assess the financial efficacy of operations and establishes systems to support operations.manages and track the performance of assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.reports to ownership, when necessary, in writing and verballyassists with creation, refinement, and implementation of accounting policies & procedures. (primarily responsible for documenting workflow, procedures and policies related to accounting)researches technical accounting literature and write technical accounting memos.

skills and experience

degree required: bachelor's degree accounting, finance or a related field is required master’s in business is helpfula minimum of eight or more years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.experience in solar energy industry preferred but not requiredcpa certification required; big 4 experience is helpfuldemonstrate company core valuesability to manage multiple tasks simultaneouslyability to work well with others in a collaborative team environmentself-motivated, willing to take a hands-on rolehonest, reliable, self-aware, and conscientiousexcellent organization and prioritization skillshigh standards for accuracy, precision, and work produce
