reporting to the manager of it applications support, the it applications engineer is part of a 3rd tier support team which consists of developers with business application expertise who assist business stakeholders, as well as direct sales agents, with various application and data correction issues. in addition, they provide application deployment support, maintenance, modernization, and primary research of technical issues. the engineer may also assist with special projects for clients such as researching data issues, researching and implementing new integrations, or developing and implementing processes to manipulate data per customer requests

primary duties & responsibilities

timely project reporting including weekly status reports to senior globe life management for all key initiative projects.drive out legacy technical debt to ensure all applications are on supported technologies.the setup and maintenance of agile, cost effective, development environments leveraging existing sdlc tools and identifying new tools and processes where needed.all enhancements must include thoroughly documented code and operational procedureseffectively balance the workload among team members.provide constructive feedback and mentoring on a regular basis and preparation of formal performance reviews on an annual basis.disaster recovery plans and tests must be engineered and completed on an annual basis (at a minimum) for all applications identified as critical to the operations of the businessflexibility to address incidents as neededability to work on call as assigned-flexibility to be on call beyond normal working hours once in 4 - 6 weeks.required skills:ability to task switch effectively based on business prioritiesteam player with strong communication and interpersonal skillsstrong organizational skills along with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneouslycommunicate effectively with technical/non-technical audiencesself-motivated and drivencan-do attitude: contributing to key improvements and innovationsrequired experience:

software engineering best practices, with at least 5 years of experience in maintaining and delivering high-quality software5+ years of experience in development using .net (c#/vb/vb.net)exposure to dot net core (optional)extensive knowledge about api's, experience in soap and restful apis5+ years of experience with relational database such as sql server 2005 and abovestrong sql skills: stored procedures, functions, views, triggersexperience in working with ssis packagesexperience in informatica will be a huge plusexperience in aws (amazon dynamodb, amazon aurora, and amazon rds for mysql or postgresql)experience with windows infrastructures ci/cd tools, scripting such as javascript, python, powershellfamiliarity with agile workflow methodologiesexperience with public cloud services (ideally aws or azure)extensive knowledge of scripting languages such as python or powershellwindows administration including iis and active directoryknowledge in best practices for infrastructure security and performanceteam foundation server or equivalent configuration management toolexperience with relational databases, microsoft sql server 2005 or higher - ssis, ssrsadvanced technical trouble shooting and data analysis and issue resolution skillsworking knowledge of systems development life cycle and use of structured methodologies and techniquesproven experience in meeting deadlines and managing multiple prioritiesstrong technical, analytical and communication skillsinsurance industry experiences in life, health and annuity a plus
