Senior systems administrator - united states, rockhampton

jacobs has partnered with nasa to support space flight programs for more than 40 years. while the majority of work is directly in support of larc, other industry partners and government agencies may be supported at remote sites as directed by the contracting officer (co). the center maintenance, operations, and engineering (cmoe) contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance, and engineering (ome). a brief description of each category is: maintenance – research and institutional facility maintenance includes, but not limited to, preventive maintenance, trouble calls, repairs, reliability centered maintenance (rcm), facility condition assessment (fca), and maintenance/operation of central utilities (e.g., electrical power distribution, potable water, storm water drainage) •operations – facilities operations support includes, but not limited to, wind tunnels, laboratories, and test stands testing, instrumentation calibration/repair; plant and utilities (e.g., high pressure air, liquid nitrogen (ln2) and steam plant); technology development and administration, including, but not limited to, facility automation systems (fas) and data acquisition systems (das) •engineering – facility engineering includes, but not limited to, engineering studies, design, construction, construction management, configuration management, tactical engineering, pressure system recertification, project management/planning support.

responsibilities:
jtog senior system administrator: system administration support of workstations, servers, and the related network configurations. end user support desk lead system administrator. manage the end user support ticketing system and assign tickets to others as assistance is needed.provide services for database, network administration and system administration; administer linux (centos, redhat, ubuntu, bsd), windows and mac os; scripting and automation tools for backup, restoration, logging offload, log screening, and the like; detail networking and os interaction such as network application profiling; network routing and switching for ip; virtualization with vmware and/or prism; work closely with software developers and cyber folks to engineer sound operational technology systems. 

- develop and maintain end user instructions, training, and documentation
- administer the intranet page for end user support
- perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key
  processes
- review system and application logs, verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
- perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
- configure system cpu, memory, and disk partitions as required
- perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
- serve as primary point responsible to deploy, maintain, and operate an encrypted data backup and recovery solution
  using emc networker
- apply systems and security patches to all workstations and servers as required

gds system administrator
- perform in a team environment with other systems administrators to provide overall operations and maintenance for the
  larc ground data systems (gds) production and development support environment
- partner with software engineering groups to install new and/or rebuild existing servers and configure hardware,
  peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational
  requirements
- serve as alternate point responsible to deploy, maintain, and operate an encrypted data backup and recovery solution
  that supports the gds production environment
- action and resolve assigned tickets within the electronic contract management system (ecms)
- provide ot system administration services for various customers across the nasa larc facilities

u.s. citizenship is required. b.s. degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of related experience, or a ms degree and seven (7) to ten (10) years of related experience or ph.d. and two (2) to five (5) years of related of progressive experience.relevant certification such as (mcp, itil foundation v3, comptia security , comptia a , mcp- 70-290 managing and maintaining windows 2003 servers, mcdst, mcsa (2000, 2003), mcse (2003, 2007), red hat certified sa and cisco cnna is preferred. 

essential functions

physical requirements:
must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a
clear vision of safety is required. potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the
like. appropriate ppe and training will be provided for all conditions. must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for
extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.

work environment:
an office or control room environment is the typical work area. project implementations or troubleshooting events will
be in an industrial or laboratory environment. may be exposed to areas of high voltage, high noise levels, hazardous
propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities. travel to other buildings on-site or nearby off-site facilities will
be required. appropriate ppe and training will be provided.
