position summary and responsibilities
analyze specifications, set-up and operate machine tools to make and repair a sequence of operations such as fabricating tools, dies, jigs or fixtures. must have knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans and drawings.
determines methods and procedures on new assignments.
study drawings and specifications to plan operation.verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring tools such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators.set-up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools.fit and assemble parts to make and repair parts per specification.conduct test runs with tools to ensure parts meet specifications, making adjustments as necessary.verifies conformance of finished product to specifications.handles problems of advanced complexity; relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with advanced coordination and control. identify and repair minor machine malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls as required.

education and/or experience
high school diploma and vocational/technical certificate or some college level courses in related field and a minimum of 5-8 years of directly related experience.
language skills
ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. ability to write routine reports and correspondence. ability to speak effectively with groups of customers or employees of organization.
mathematical skills
ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
reasoning ability
ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
computer skills
to perform this job successfully,an individual should be able to enter time and data into a computer system. an individual may require knowledge of database software
