job description  

the new markets team is responsible for originating utility-scale renewable energy projects and conducts rigorous due diligence to ensure that we develop a strong portfolio of projects that are the most compelling, the most likely to succeed, and the most competitive possible. the new markets team collaborates with many internal teams (development, business development, construction, transmission, land, resource, gis, finance, environment, public affairs) to complete different stages of due diligence.

what you will do:

in this role, you will support the new markets team in the identification, evaluation, and fatal-flaw analysis of wind and solar projects from start to finish. specifically, you will conduct research and analysis to determine competition and identify acquisition opportunities.  the role requires strong communication, research, analysis, presentation, and computer skills (especially in powerpoint, excel and arcgis). an understanding of wind, solar and energy markets is considered a major advantage.

who you are:

you are passionate about accelerating the shift to a clean energy future and have recently graduated or are about to graduate from an undergraduate or graduate degree. you have an outstanding academic record, knowledge of u.s. power markets, and can quickly and effectively pull relevant data from a variety of sources. you are adept at using both quantitative and qualitative information to inform decision making.

responsibilities:

researching competitor solar projects and contributing to the development of our national solar database analyzing interconnection queue data to identify potential competitors;  conducting preliminary title work to verify site availability;perform diligence and research to inform acquisition strategy;support cross-departmental needs, including: market, transmission, public engagement, environmental research support;contributing to a 4-phase powerpoint and smartsheet based process for the due diligence of wind and solar projects from a resource, environmental, permitting, land, constructability, cost, community receptivity, and transmission fatal flaw perspective; andperforming other duties and investigations as assigned.
qualifications  recent graduates of a undergraduate or graduate program in a related field (e.g. energy, environmental science, public policy/public affairs, economics, etc.) with an outstanding academic record. a graduate degree is considered an advantage;knowledge of u.s. rto/iso (e.g., ercot, miso, pjm, etc.) planning/queue process and a general understanding of wind and solar energy development is preferable;strong cross-functional (quantitative and qualitative) analytical skills and ability to communicate findings in both verbal and written format;demonstrable alignment with apex’s core values of sustainability, safety, entrepreneurship, integrity, and professionalism;all employees hired after august 1, 2021 are required to submit proof of a covid-19 vaccination on or before their start date unless a reasonable accommodation is requested and approved.
additional information  the internship program will run from june 6 through august 12 but we can be flexible with the start and end dateshours: full time type:  non-exemptpaid internship: undergrad $15/hour; grad $25/houroffice location: depends on the status of the pandemic.  if we are able to work in-person, the internship will take place in our charlottesville, va headquarters; otherwise, internships will be held remotely
