position overview

the server administrator will have responsibilities for 3d engineering related applications in kiewit’s virtual desktop environment (vdi). application virtualization and packaging, and general maintenance of the v-sphere environment on which the solution is based.  they will be a technical resource assisting kiewit technology group teams in driving technology automation and standards for our business partners.  this position will also contribute to creation of all internal standards policies, procedural and technical documentation.  they will work closely with other departments within kiewit technology to establish technical and procedural strategies regarding virtualization standards.  this position will report to the edge computing enablement manager within the kiewit technology group operations organization.

responsibilities

design, implement and maintain enterprise-level digital workspace (i.e. horizons, airwatch, workspace one, citrix) identify capacity and performance needs for infrastructure (computer, memory and disk) manage it related initiatives including long-duration projects across multiple groups manage and prioritize multiple related projects, including troubleshooting, operations and maintenance of the enterprise in a team environment provide customer-focused technical support to other teams within kiewit technology group and our business partners as needed maintain documentation for it processes, procedures, incident tickets, network configurations, hardware/software inventory and audit requests create and maintain technical and procedural standards documentation follow formal change control process represent the edge computing enablement team as a lead resource on corporate project teams and advisory boards make timely decisions with well-developed judgment, while considering alternatives, risks, and other critical decision factors engage in appropriate escalation management activities work with it vendors/hosting partners as needed to gain issue resolution and ensure performance of 3rd party solutions pro-actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement within the team and department and act upon findings to initiate improvements, presenting ideas in a persuasive way to gain support maintain professional knowledge and skills through proactive self-study of relevant technologies and processes train peers to increase the skillset of the team

qualifications

highly motivated, self-starting and self-directed minimum five (5) years of experience in an information technology role minimum three (3) years of experience working with desktop/application virtualization, powershell and related technologies experience with thin provisioning, storage, template creation experience with microsoft’s active directory experience with persistent and non-persistent desktops, desktop/server image creation, persona management, and gpu provisioning for vdi desktops experience with microsoft azure preferred strong understanding of emerging technologies, standards and best practices ability to multi-task, work independently and as a part of multiple teams ability to manage a variety of technically challenging tasks effectively strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to solve unique problems with creative solutions must be able to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work efficiently demonstrated initiative with commitment and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while still maintaining high quality standards strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to present information both to technical and non-technical customers/stakeholders, in appropriate media and form ability to work off-hours when required and be part of an on-call rotation bachelor's degree in computer related field is preferred
