kinder morgan, inc. is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in north america. we own an interest in or operate approximately 84,000 miles of pipelines and 157 terminals. our pipelines transport natural gas, refined petroleum products, crude oil, condensate, co2 and other products, and our terminals trans load and store liquid commodities including petroleum products, ethanol and chemicals, and bulk products, including petroleum coke, metals and ores. this position can be located in either midland, tx, snyder, tx. 

this position is responsible for:

provide electrical engineering to support the co2 business unit’s operational assets (six oil & gas assets and two midstream assets.)develop & lead an electrical motor testing reliability program to support the co2 business unit’s operational assets.

essential duties and responsibilities:

demonstrate safe behaviorensure proactive, ongoing, high quality customer service is provided to the supported assets engineering support to drive reliability and efficiency to all co2 bu asset’s electrical equipment.measure progress, evaluate performance and provide clear reporting against established milestones.provide corrective actions to resolve operational problems and work with location personnel to resolve issues.monitor reliability of equipment and participate in various regular reliability meetings.lead/assist in electrical equipment root cause failure analysis and in the development of standard practices and procedures.assist with start-up and commissioning of new and existing facility equipment (as needed).plant/asset maintenance & outage planning.provide recommendations for equipment selection in new and existing systemsanalyze and provide recommendations based on electrical equipment testing reportssupport operations to manage contract electrical equipment testing.analyze, track and trend electrical testing data and make predictions/recommendations based on this data.manage motor testing dataelectrical engineering support on operational issues, i.e. trouble shooting equipment (sometimes off normal work hours)power modeling: review and maintain existing power studies for distribution system supporting production field and plants.

position requirements

education:  accredited bachelor degree in engineering required – electrical preferred.   mechanical, natural gas or petroleum engineering would be considered if accompanied by significant electrical engineering experience.

experience / specific knowledge:

minimum 5 years in the energy, oil or gas industry and/or equivalent industry experience requiredexperience with motor testing equipment or programs. pdma testing experience preferred.operational and/or design experience in one or more of the following:

a) 138kv substations and distribution

b) induction and synchronous motors electrical protection (medium voltage and large horsepower 4000+)

c) oil & gas production facilities

d) production field/plant operations 

e) design or configuration or operation of motor switchgear, starters, or protection relays

f) skm and etap power tools software.

certifications, licenses, registrations: 

valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
