this is a hands-on and diverse position within the finance group of commercial insurance.  member of a business embedded finance team responsible for building the annual plan, monthly and quarterly forecasting and actual results analysis.  the team is also responsible for various data analytics, reporting and analysis of key performance indicators with emphasis on sustainable business solutions, data quality and data integration. the position is responsible for supporting the financial and reporting needs of commercial insurance (ci) including line of business, industry vertical and field business leadership as well as supporting the north america finance deliverables. this includes but not limited to activities related to  monthly and quarterly accounting close and reporting process, financial planning & analysis, forecasting, and accumulating, reviewing, and reporting financial and operational data and metrics as assigned with a strong focus on data analytics and reporting.

the financial analyst will also be expected to provide accurate, clear/concise reporting to finance and business management.  in addition, this position will be involved with downstream financial and policy administration system improvements, integration activities, data quality improvements.

provide management and business partners with accurate and timely financial and operational information/support so informed business decisions can be made. this will occur through the completion of the following:

preparation of monthly, quarterly and year to date p&l exhibits providing analyses and comparisons to plan, prior and forecasts in support of the monthly/quarterly reporting package provided to management and executives.   prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and ytd financial results for completeness and accuracy. provide and compile metrics and analysis of p&l statements including premium production, reinsurance, losses, acquisition costs and expenses. gather/prepare documentation to support financial results, unusual activity, trends or occurrences and inform finance and business partners of the findings. continue to follow up on issues until completion.   prepare and document monthly and quarterly narratives detailing variances. review, analyze, scrub financial and operational data. reach conclusions provide recommendations and analysis.  communicate findings effectively. support and coordinate with commercial insurance business partners (line of business, industry vertical, regional) to assist in meeting their business and operational goals, including financial reporting, planning and forecasting, data requests and analysis of results requests on a routine or as needed basis.  partner with business and support groups (e.g. product, industry, regional business, information technology, north america finance, reinsurance, actuarial and data analytics groups) to develop plans and forecasts, understand and analyze their production results and reporting.  developing of management reports and providing support to related users. assist and support in the development and implementation of strategies and associated tactical action steps to ensure workflows and processes are completed efficiently and effectively. support the pre-bind and post-bind metrics and processes to monitor such and continuously improve key financial and non-financial drivers of financial and operational performance. oversee certain monthly/quarterly reporting assignments and standalone mcc, industry vertical or regional reporting. assist documenting, developing, and implementing financial and operational processes.   work and lead projects related to data quality and availability, system implementations and improvements

skills and experience:

bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, statistics or information technology, data science preferred.  college grad to 2 years relevant experience – in accounting, finance, data analytics or business analytics roles.   accounting or financial planning and analysis experience and/or data analytics and development. ability to lead others, problem solve and work autonomously, manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously excellent communication skills both oral and written strong accounting and analytical skills with an attention to detail strong data and business analytics, relational databases, and models ability to multitask and prioritize deadlines strong business and financial acumen required p&c insurance accounting and/or understanding of insurance financial concepts and data a plus  proven track record in a finance, insurance operations, business analyst, data science, or it position in insurance a plus  must demonstrate an orientation to results, integrity and dedication.  enthusiastic self-starter  ability to work effectively and independently with other disciplines and all levels of management/staff throughout the organization.   ability to support business and other diverse constituents reinsurance experience a plus familiarity or experience with financial systems, general ledger, planning and forecasting tools, relational databases, data models, query and reporting (e.g. tm1, cognos, qlik, peoplesoft, sql, power pivot, power query) technologies a plus understand and utilize the various internal reporting systems and tools (bar, qlik, tracker, pmr, cuw) a plus advance knowledge of excel required.
