chemical operator
summary/objective
the chemical operator is responsible for operating chemical plant machines and entire chemical processes. monitors instruments, adjust valves and gauges, and interprets chemical reactions.
essential functions
1. operate a variety of process equipment, including reaction systems, distillation systems, filters, extractors, reactors, pumps, and centrifuges in compliance with prescribed operating procedures.
2. load and unload raw materials, intermediates, and finished products into and out of process equipment.
3. set up and adjust indicating and controlling devices.
4. monitor and record reactions, noting changes in chemical and physical properties and compositional changes of substances.
5. adjust valves and controls to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels.
6. maintain log of gauge readings, shift production, and equipment malfunctions.
7. communicate job status to incoming shift.
8. perform routine maintenance on plant equipment.
9. maneuver drums and other containers on pallets
10. troubleshoot process and/or equipment problems.
11. report/record mechanical/process problems.
12. sample, control, and maintain plant quality.
13. operate forklift.
14. complete plant data/batch sheets.
15. work in accordance with hseq best practice.
16. perform required housekeeping and maintain orderliness.
17. attend all safety meetings/trainings as required.
18. wear all appropriate personal protection equipment (ppe) as required.
position type/expected hours of work
this is a full-time position. shifts are: 8-hour, 10-hour and 12-hour. area of plant employee is assigned to will determine shift schedule. overtime, call-in, and weekends as needed.
required education and experience
1. high school diploma or ged.
2. one year of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent.
preferred education and experience
1. high school diploma or ged.
2. south carolina “work keys” testing
3. two (2) years of experience.
