summary:
administratively coordinates and manages hospital activities on a per shift basis under the direction of cno or aoc. responsible for staffing patient care areas, coordinating patient admissions, managing flow of patients throughout the hospital and general supervision of hospital. maintains own professional growth and development in nursing leadership and required licensure. communicates important information to the cno and other administrative team members as needed.
essential functions:
develops, implements and manages hospital/nursing policies, procedures and standards of care. rounds on all patient care units to evaluate condition of patients, staffing needs and to provide support to caregivers. performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. administers the effective distribution and utilization of personnel employed during the respective shift. uses good judgment in ensuring adherence to established hospital procedures and policies. actively engaged with committees and task forces as needed. participates and assists in the planning and providing of in-service education programs within the hospital or other meetings, seminars or institutes conducted outside the hospital. demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills. evaluates and documents performance of employees as indicated and communicates this information to the nursing director. assumes the duties as outlined in the emergency preparedness manual. follows pharmacy protocols for obtaining drugs when the pharmacist is unavailable. actively engages in patient safety, quality and performance improvement activities. completes annual education requirements. maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and jcaho regulations. collaborates in a team based care environment with all providers, clinicians, support staff and administrators. monitors unit environment and clinical practice for regulatory compliance. other duties as assigned.required education:
bachelor’s degree is required
master's degree is preferred
required license:
registered nurse in north carolina is required
required certification:
bls is required within 30 days of hire
acls is required within 6 months of hire
pals is required within 6 months of hire
