reporting directly to the head of product development and to the cto, the principal scientist will be responsible for identifying and studying solutions to materials and process challenges. the principal scientist will take on the responsibility of understanding physical phenomena critical to the performance of blue frontier’s technology.

the principal scientist will work with engineers, technicians, 3rd party research organizations and external vendors to test, evaluate, and create processes that will enhance the performance and operating life of our products and components. initially the principal scientist will concentrate efforts in evaluating water-wick interface, airflow interaction and transport.

an ideal candidate may have prior research experience in the fields of advanced textiles (e.g. non-wovens), wicking behavior in textiles, wettability and wicking analysis, textured surfaces, microfluidics, fluid-structure interactions and water filtration. candidates may have relevant experience as a textile scientist, polymer scientist, microfluidics engineer, or as a research scientist in related fields.

roles and responsibilities

development of water transport systems

work with vendors and research organizations to formulate strategies to enhance the water transport and management in blue frontier systems explore new materials and techniques to optimize wicking performance and fluid-air interaction project management

testing and product development support

the principal scientist will help develop testing infrastructure to test materials and process strategies prior to their implementation in manufactured productsdevelopment of performance models and testing procedures that quantify model uncertainty and usefulnessidentifies gaps in understanding, and develops methods and r&d processes to fill-in these gaps line management/departmental managementas the company grows we are likely to hire junior scientists to build out our science department. the candidate should ideally have some experience of line management

skills & capabilities

education & experience

10 years relevant industry experience, with emphasis in r&d for product development of highly engineered systems and hardwareexperience in development and study of water and ionic liquid flow through media such as wicks and membranesphd in mechanical engineering, materials science, textiles, or other relevant field

technical skills

knowledge and research experience on topics such as:

advanced textiles (e.g. non-wovens)wicking behavior in textileswettability and wicking analysistextured surfacesmicrofluidicsfluid-structure interactionswater filtrationwater purification technology

excels in the following enabling skills:

must be able to manage tasks and projects with significant amount of autonomymust be an excellent technical writer, capable of analyzing and writing patent disclosures, scientific papers, technical proposals, and project reportsmust be an excellent verbal communicator and presentermust be able to put together powerpoint presentations and other presentation materials
