robert half finance is looking for a staff accountant for a full-time opportunity with a reputable company. as a staff accountant, you will be in charge of preparing journal entries, assisting with monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance and general ledger reconciliation. throughout the monthly close, you will also be responsible for various aspects of internal reporting. this role will have the opportunity to take on more within the company as well very quickly! this position plays an intricate part in the day to day general accounting, and works as the right hand to the accounting manager. located in the shelton, connecticut area, this position is a challenging, multi-faceted opportunity to work for a company that recognizes and rewards hard work.

responsibilities

- in-depth experience with reconciling month end balance sheet accounts

- recurring journal entries maintenance and reconciliation

- produce complex journal entries and account reconciliations which include, but are not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, and payroll

- maintain fixed asset ledgers, depreciation, and reconciliation

- partake in a variety of department-wide initiatives

- organize and review various financial data, then report it in a manner that is useful and understandable

- assist with the month end close and produce journal entries

- maintain, implement, and adhere to internal controls while ensuring that accounting procedures comply with gaap

- upon request, take part in special projects and impromptu reporting

- assist in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation

- assist in property tax return preparation

- experience assisting with month-end journal entries highly desired

- proficiency in credit card, bank account and general ledger account reconciliations

- high volume accounts payable (ap) experience-- ideally with 3 way matching experience

- journal entries experience preferred; willingness to learn required

- familiarity with month end closings-- this will be trained

- attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

- self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

- foundational knowledge of spreadsheets and databases

- comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

- comfortable working in erp systems

- 1+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience

- ba/bs or equivalent in accounting, finance or economics

- dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
