the boeing company is currently seeking a sr. software engineer to join our enterprise insider threat program located in annapolis junction, md (virtual). this position will focus on supporting the boeing defense, space & security (bds) business organization.

the candidate will work closely with a skilled team of analysts, data scientists, and other software engineers to integrate complex, disparate data into the boeing company’s insider threat software system. the software engineer will design, develop, test, document, deploy, and maintain the architecture, requirements, and designs for the insider threat software system to support the mission of the boeing company’s insider threat program: to identify, detect, assess, investigate, manage, and mitigate potential insider threats.
position responsibilities:
all aspects of the software development lifecycle including requirements gathering, scope and work estimation, architecture and design, coding, and automated testing using ruby, jruby, postgresql, and bash
leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system
develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met
leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of metrics to drive operational improvements
collects, organizes, synthesizes, and analyzes data; summarizes findings; develops conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources
coordinates the collection, storage, processing, shaping, and delivering a large and disparate data sets over a distributed network
analyzes problems (troubleshooting, fault isolation, repair, modification, or redesign) of assigned end items to support the design, development and modification of capabilities
collaborate with analysts, administrators, data scientists, users, developers, and program leaders to design and communicate innovative software solutions to support the insider threat mission
highly motivated, employs ingenuity and creativity to develop new technical solutions, and must work well in a remote team environment

security clearance and export control requirements:
this position requires an active top secret u.s. security clearance pre-start. (a u.s. security clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
basic qualifications (required skills/experience):
top secret clearance pre-start
3+ years of experience using etl tools/capabilities
3+ years of experience using linux operating systems
3+ years of combined experience with languages including c++, python, java and ruby
experience with relational databases (ie - sql server or oracle)
preferred qualifications:
experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle (sdlc)
familiarity with api protocols
experience using source control and configuration management (git)
experience with unit testing
experience with object-oriented programming (oop)
experience working in geographically-dispersed teams
strong, self-motivated desire to learn new programming languages, tools, frameworks, and technique
strong communicator capable of communicating, advising, and collaborating clearly, concisely, and consistently with team members, partners, customers, and business stakeholders
typical education/experience:
education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. phd+4 years' related work experience, master+7 years' related work experience, 13 years' related work experience, etc.)
