 dnv- energy sytems's  energy storage advisory group is seeking a senior energy access engineer to join our energy storage engineering (ese) team. dnv is the world's leading renewable energy consultant, and our ese team holds a substantial market position for independent engineering services to support financing and construction of stand-alone, solar + storage, and hybrid storage projects in north america.  our staff are viewed as experts and thought leaders in the industry. in this role, our team provides technical consulting and independent engineering services for energy storage and solar + storage project developers, financial institutions, and investors who rely upon our reports as part of their investment decision making process.

in this role, you will be responsible for projects related to energy access work, such as due diligence for mini-grid transactions, expansion of international grids to incorporate more renewables, or owner's engineering to projects in emerging markets. the work will be based in north america, but will also support international work in conjunction with other dnv offices worldwide.

ideally, this position would be based out of our san diego ca, portland or, oakland ca, seattle wa, austin tx, chalfont pa, or medford, ma markets. remote from any of our dnv locations in the u.s

what you'll do

perform technical due-diligence on mini-grid, renewables expansion, and grid-expansion projects, including financial model reviews assist and lead owner's engineering projects for developers in the energy access space prioritize qhse considerations within the team to ensure safe execution and healthy work environment. coordinate input from technical specialists and writing of the due diligence reports. discuss and resolve technical issues with project developers and lenders/investors, including coordinating input on such issues from internal technical specialists as necessary. develop and win proposals for scopes of services related to due diligence work, especially among development finance institutions (dfis). coordinate construction monitoring by dnv, including performing site visits. support customers through the financial closings of projects. participate in continuous improvement efforts for the ese team, including leading tool development, process refinement, and lessons learned activities. support the mission and vision, have some fun while you do it, and maybe make a few new friends

position qualifications

what is required 

bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related energy field. minimum of 5 years' experience in batteries, energy storage, and/or solar + storage industry familiarity with energy industry technology (pv, battery, controls) and related contracts project management and time management skills, including an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines and to establish and maintain good relations with clients willingness and ability to travel, up to 20% of the time. solution-oriented thinking skills displaying high integrity and honesty strong written and verbal english communication skills, including ability to write clear and detailed technical reports, especially to a non-technical audience we conduct pre-employment drug and background screening.

what is preferred

post-graduate degree in technical discipline experience working with large-scale dfis such as world bank, ifc, opic, idb, ustda international project implementation, mini-grids, or development of energy projects in emerging markets gis experience french, spanish or other foreign language ability
