this is an onsite position.


the health information (him) analyst is a multi-task position requiring an employee with multi-dimensional skills who will successfully achieve the following:

accurate and timely processing and completion of inpatient and outpatient record functions including, but not limited to: initial and final analysis of inpatient and outpatient records, entering and monitoring of provider deficiencies and chart completion tracking, communicates regularly with, and acts as a liaison to providers with chart completion questions, scans paperwork for inclusion into the ehr, participates in maintaining data for the suspension process and provider notification, provides customer service and maintains various reporting such as productivity, cms, and dashboard reporting.

responsible for handling incoming calls from a variety of clinical locations and outside providers requesting patient information.

the him analyst duties include retrieving and delivering patient information in a timely manner, releases information for continuity of patient care, occasionally files charts, and paper documents into physical paper charts, assists with physician and clinical projects, and associated chart preparation, pulls charts for various departments, sorts documents for scanning and/or scans documents into the electronic document management system.

examines pages and verifies proper patient identification on each page. appropriately sorts and/or scans batches by appropriate document type, correct patient and applies correct description and date range when applicable. performs personal and independent quality assessment as required according to policy.

reviews the electronic document management system and records contained within for appropriate image quality and indexing. maintains scanning equipment.

responsible for processing written and oral requests for release of medical information from health care providers, third party payors, fiscal auditors, legal entities and patients or their representatives, following hipaa, cms, federal and state regulations.

coordinates the service of the third party agent and assists in the transferring of records to meet requests.

performs reception duties as necessary.

birth certificate completion in accordance with current policy and federal and state regulations.

the him analyst may be assigned primary functions but will be able to adjust to other work assignments as needed based on scheduling and staffing needs. the incumbent will be assigned a primary work shift but may be called upon to temporarily modify work hours depending upon departmental needs.


position requirements

education: high school graduate or equivalent required. health information management degree, equivalent college level education or applicable/related experience preferred.

experience: two to four years of related health information or administrative office assistance experience preferred. must have experience in computer technologies and/or keyboarding. ability to problem solve individually, and to facilitate group problem solving.  must have ability to utilize numeric and color coded filing systems.

knowledge: knowledge of various software applications preferred, such as, but not limited to: microsoft outlook, word, excel, onbase, and epic. must have knowledge of various hardware such as pc’s, printers and copiers. completion of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology course preferred.

special skills/equipment: must be able to work independently and as a team member. must be detail oriented. must have good organizational, training and planning skills. must possess good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to mentor others effectively. must be able to handle multiple tasks and have good prioritization skills. must have excellent phone and customer service skills. must meet and maintain productivity and accuracy requirements.
