senior unix/linux engineer

duties and responsibilities:

creative thinker
-responsible for the technical installation plan for new customer implementations and quanum ecs release upgrades.  this involves working directly with our customer’s technical staff and third party vendors.
-responsible for all installation/upgrade technical activities for quanum ecs system, including all supported third party applications, and databases.
-plan and execute quanum ecs hardware and storage migrations including the technical plans to move to different hardware and os platforms.
-responsible for providing expertise on new technologies as they relate to hardware configurations, including high availability, disk mirroring, storage area networks, tape libraries, centralized backup solutions, etc.
-collaborate on technical documentation related to installation and upgrade activities.
-conduct knowledge transfer sessions related to quanum ecs technical infrastructure and use for the customer’s technical team.
-participate in process improvement initiatives.
-provide support for sales and account management related to hardware and system configuration.

basic purpose:

this position is responsible for installation, configuration and upgrade of the quanum enterprise content solutions (ecs) system.  this position involves working with linux (red hat), or ibm (aix) and windows servers configured in a high availability environment, san and nas storage, utilizing an oracle database.

education preferred:

knowledge and skills at a level normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree in science in computer science or related or equivalent experience

work experience:
5+ years of system administration experience, preferably in linux (red hat), or environment ibm-aix.
5+ years of experience with window server environments and virtualized server environments.

other:
-ability to handle sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality.
-superior listening and problem resolution skills
-ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
-self-directed, with considerable initiative
-ability to read and quickly interpret technical documentation
-demonstrated ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-workers, departments, customers and vendors.
-excellent customer service skills. must possess skills to be able to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
-must understand configuration and troubleshooting processes for software, hardware, networking and accessory equipment.
-some experience with pc hardware/os and peripherals.
-this role requires occasional travel of up to 25%.
-job could require work outside of business hours and weekends related to off hours installation and upgrade activities.
