job summary: 

the maintenance supervisor is responsible for the overall direction and the effective coordination and function of the maintenance departments activities including mechanical, electrical and i&c.  this includes directing craft employees, planning & scheduling daily work activities, participation in outage planning and execution, budget preparation, development & maintaining effective predictive (pdm) and preventative (pm) maintenance programs and providing engineering oversight and support as needed.

essential duties/responsibilities:
 

develop and execute short and long-term pdm & pm maintenance programs for mechanical and electrical equipment, instrumentation and controls to ensure plant/equipment reliability, nerc, environmental and regulatory compliance. determine inventory needs for assigned areas of responsibility. document and report any deviations in performance of plant equipment. establish and maintain plant records for plant equipment maintenance using the computerized maintenance management system (cmms) sap. develop a detailed budget and monitor spending to stay within allotted budget. develop and maintain plant p&id’s and electrical one-line diagrams. provide engineering oversight where needed.  coordinate work activities with other maintenance crafts, operations, and contractors. ensure compliance with company environmental and safety policies as well as federal, state and local safety and environmental laws and regulations. promote productivity and teamwork in assigned area with open communication, timely decision making, and use of personal leadership skills to set high standards of performance while providing the direction necessary to achieve that performance. provides regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement. ensure all company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner, estimates resource requirements, monitors expenditures, and reports on performance of assigned area. understand and consistently apply personnel policies and procedures and the principles of the bargaining unit agreement. assess risk, makes appropriate run-repair-replace decisions and coordinate vendor selection for parts and services as required. maintain a current assessment of the maintenance backlog. required to work in a plant environment and perform maintenance tasks or special projects. required to perform inspections on various equipment and components.

minimum requirements:

education:  engineering degree or minimum of 5 years of direct experience in the mechanical, i&c and electrical fields planning, scheduling and overseeing maintenance activities in a power plant or similar industrial environment.

preferred qualifications:

demonstrate understanding of power plant systems and electrical equipment, including high voltage switchgear, transformers, generators, motor control centers, dcs, and plc controls. experience and/or ability to development and maintain budgets. understanding nerc regulations and associated electrical maintenance requirements as they apply to plant systems & equipment good communication skills, self-motivated, highly organized. demonstrate ability to develop and revise plant p&id’s and electrical one line diagrams. experience leading/supervising employees in a related field is desirable. experience with basic business systems such as sap, word, and excel. ability to identify root causes of issues and make sound business decisions. oriented towards working in a competitive environment. working knowledge of safety, environmental and labor laws and regulations.

knowledge of power plant systems and operations; and comprehensive knowledge in the area of responsibility. demonstrated effective leadership and personnel management skills. demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team environment. ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) at all levels of the organization. ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals. ability to read, create and follow written policies and procedures. ability to understand and use work management systems. attention to detail in development and delivery of work product. available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when needed.

physical requirements and working conditions:

this position is a combination of work in office and industrial settings.  must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (ppe) such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses, and other ppe as required.  duties require extensive manual dexterity in usage of computer terminal and keyboard, while sitting for long periods of time preparing budgets, work scopes, testing and outage schedules environmental compliance documents, and other reports as needed.  may be required to perform equipment or site inspections by climbing vertical ladders in excess of 20 feet and stairways in excess of 40 feet, using step stool, kneeling, bending, walking over uneven surfaces such as loose rock, walking long distances, open grating, up and down staircases.  may be required to prepare and conduct training, including mentoring individuals one-on-one.  in conducting training, may be required to carry training materials, and to stand for extended periods of time.
