the primary purpose of the first/surgical assist position is to assist the surgeon and rn’s in operative procedures. the primary role of the first/surgical assist- will be to function as an assistant to the surgeon.   

reports to: clinical nurse manager/director

flsa:  non exempt  

minimum education
x high school diploma or ged required

minimum education
x associate’s degree preferred

required skills
requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

certifications:
x basic life support (bcls) required within 30 days of hire
x certification as surgical/first assist on hire
