kiewit water engineering (kwe) has an immediate opening for a director – wastewater treatment technology as part of our expanding and highly successful water group based in lenexa, ks, usa.  you will be in a senior management role within the kiewit water engineering organization that is developing wastewater infrastructure solutions that seamlessly transition from design plans to completed projects that exceed client expectations and further kiewit’s legacy of excellence.

you will be the authority providing technical and strategic leadership to expand our market position nationally on the physical and chemical processes in the wastewater treatment arenas of biological nutrient removal, biosolids treatment (thermal hydrolysis, advanced anerobic digestion) and biogas utilization.  kiewit water directors are key decision makers in our water business and will be an integral part of our leadership team with responsibilities ranging from market strategic planning and business development collaboration to technical oversight of ongoing water treatment facility projects with direct access to executive management in the engineering and construction businesses.

location

this role will be based out of kiewit's lenexa, ks office (kansas city area) preferably.  remote work locations will be fairly considered.



responsibilities

strategic leadership

assist and support executive leadership with short-term and long-term strategy development and business initiatives within the organization collaborate with the regional water markets & strategy professionals as the primary engineering contact for wastewater treatment to interface with customers to support project and business development needs (client meetings, proposal messaging, interviews). develop strategic plans for new business opportunities and foster long-term customer relationships by attending customer engagement activities and functions (as needed) communicate/present potential new business opportunities and industry trends, competitive situations, or technology/regulatory issues identify current and future pursuit and/or project risks along with development of mitigation strategies manage and interpret data and results for multiple projects such that sound business decisions can be made based on these results consolidate best practices from pursuit and project execution

pursuit & project performance leadership

collaborative senior management responsibility during the soq/rfp proposal development phases for pursuit opportunities ensuring technical design contract compliance, alternative technical/technology concept development, design execution strategy development, technical proposal content accuracy, risk assessments and performance guarantees technical and engineering leadership for concurrent multiple engineering teams on municipal infrastructure and industrial water facility design including process evaluation and selection, preparation of engineering reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications and supporting start-up & commissioning plan development while ensuring that all contractual design and permitting requirements are met senior management responsibility for project performance guarantees, engineering deliverable quality, technical risk identification and mitigation, and contract compliance with technical design aspects

community/industry leadership

involvement in the community and industry as an influential leader through participation in organizations and memberships and delivering customer and professional organization presentations senior leadership, guidance and review of key technical conference papers and presentations

mentorship

provide technical mentorship of engineering and design staff to become future leaders by assisting in employee development, training, recruiting, retention
 

qualifications

bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical or civil/environmental engineering, from an accredited university master’s degree or higher in chemical, mechanical or civil/environmental engineering, strongly preferred but not required professional engineer (pe) registration 15+ years’ experience in project management, engineering design, estimating, and start-up/commissioning of wastewater, biosolids treatment, thermal hydrolysis, advanced anerobic digestion infrastructure projects with focus on design-build / epc project delivery knowledge and application of alternative project delivery methods (pdb, fdb, cmar, dbom, dbfom, p3). willing and available to accommodate intermittent travel (25-40% expected) strong organizational and time management skills strong written and verbal communications skills attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done ability to work independently as well as part of a team ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
