to administer, analyze and appraise the care given to patients and to advise the director regarding status of patient care, budgetary projections, quality improvement processes. to anticipate and estimate future needs of the department to improve quality of patient care. to collaborate and coordinate the efforts of the staff to accomplish the hospital's mission. responsible for meeting patient care, physician and staff needs throughout his/her department in accordance with the hospitals mission and core values and to abide by all federal, state and local regulations, as well as st. rita's policies/procedures.
*essential functions*
1. aids in providing hands-on education/training to staff as necessary.
2. develops and administers unit specific services as necessary.
3. promotes a multidisciplinary coordination of services, such as, nursing medical, respiratory care, laboratory, pharmaceutical and public relations.
4. demonstrates excellent skills in planning, organizing, and managing personnel resources in a cost effective and productive manner for the operation of the nursing unit.
5. administers and appraises quality improvement within the services provided.
6. works with director on the hiring, evaluating, terminating, counseling, coaching and development of staff.
7. manages the practice of professional nursing and support positions within the unit to maintain quality patient care through implementation and evaluation of clinical practice standards.
8. works with director to develop, interpret, inspect and review policies and procedures within the services provided.
9. gives input to director on disaster preparedness policies and procedures for the organization.
10. responsible for twenty four-hour coverage and problem resolution to the services provided.
11. actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify of care or the services delivered.
12. demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system.uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
*department specific functions*
1. attends/leads department in-services and presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
2. uses unit performance improvement plan to improve patient safety. participates in development of performance improvement initiatives.
3. actively participates in survey preparedness activities.
4. other duties as assigned.
*minimum required qualifications*
minimum of associate degree in nursing form an accredited school of nursing.
current rn license in the state of ohio.
bls certification.
minimum of 1-3 years of general nursing experience.
*education:*
bachelor or masters in nursing or related health care field preferred.
licensure: current rn license in the state of ohio
*certifications*: bls certification
*experience: *crrn preferred
*other knowledge, skills, and abilities*
a. minimum ofone-three years general nursing experience
b. able to learn quality improvement concepts and effect departmental change.
c. assumes responsibility for continued personal and professional growth.
d. membership and participation in a professional nursing organization.
e. displays flexibility; sees new problems as reliable learning opportunities and enjoys the challenge of new tasks.
