we are looking for a daytime chef to join the our locally-loved american restaurant. pickle & rye is a chef-owned independent of 11 years and in 2021 renovated and opened a brand new diner-style location on the upper richmond road in east sheen. at the heart of what we do is american food and drink at a high standard but always full of love and classic aspects of the usa. our kitchen team is led by head chef alex who is a native of the state of delaware. we strive for the kitchen to run smoothly through communication, protocols and a team of energetic and team-focused chefs.

daytime sous chef (full time/40hrs)

currently, we operate a busy weekend brunch service, lunch during the week and evening dinners. we need a chef with strong leadership skills to work daytime. further on we see pickle & rye expanding which would allow our new hires to be a part of the business from an early stage, presenting career path opportunities.

what’s the job?

the sous chef will report directly to the head chef but be in charge of the daytime shifts. they will begin by learning each station thoroughly - salad/sandwich, grill, breakfast and fryers. this will include recipes, prep, service and opening/clean-down. after mastering each station, the chef will be responsible for leading the shift, organising the prep list and days needs, running an efficient and consistent service. we promote a healthy work/life balance at pickle & rye and therefore tailor our management rotas to 40 hours and no more than 45 hours a week, for part-timers, no more than 25 hours a week.

required skills

in addition to the standard skills required in any kitchen, specifically, our ideal chef de partie would have knowledge of american cuisine and have a passion for food that is homemade and from the heart. importantly, the successful candidate will work to well with the team to uphold high standards, enjoy their work, and inspire pride in the work through passionate energy for providing wonderful food from the heart.

position includes

£26,000-28,000 per annum

29 days holiday, including birthday off and paid

no more than 45 hours per week or 25 for part timers, daytime hours
